Best of luck Panther fans and Kovalev.
Thanks, all of us are hoping he does well like he did for the Pens for many years.

Jonathan Huberdeau must be thrilled right now. He's born in St-Jérôme, just north of Montreal. He was 11 years old when Kovalev was traded to Montreal, and I'm sure he was cheering for him and the Habs during his teenage years, at the time when The Artist was a national hero in Quebec.

And now he'll start his NHL career on the same line than him... What a nice story!

In an 48- game season with Panthers, turning 40 and scoring one goal in KHL during his 22-game stint? Pretty bold prediction to say the least.

Although I love to have these childhood heroes from vintage EA NHL video games still around, I am afraid this will turn just like all good memories: better when left untouched.

You're gonna love him for maybe, 8 games...

And you'll hate him for the other 40...

Low risk, high reward. Rather him than some waiver wire dud

I like the signing. One of the most talented players I've ever seen but who never really reached his full potential. Nonetheless, he showed lot of glimpses of the sublime. I hope he has a few more grand moments in store.

Nah. He is still Alexei Kovalev. It will never change no matter how ineffective he is.

well its a win for us as long as huberdeau picks up a trick or two from him. this is nothing about him boosting our offense (maybe shootouts), but more to gain knowledge for our future stars. Imagine for huberdeau to get to play with a guy like kovalev! Must be amazing for him!

Watch Kovalev troll us Sens fans and score a hat trick on Monday.

He was awful with the Penguins last time he played in the NHL. Don't expect much.

Provincial hero, not national. I don't think too many non-Habs fans were happy when Montreal was doing well I know I wasn't!

He was bad last time he was in the NHL and even worse during his stint in the KHL. Very surprising if he manages to make a succesful return.

1000 points. Let that sink in.

Players with those numbers are never overrated. Especially when they emerged in the dead puck era.

I think he had a goal, an assist and a shootout winner in his first game in his second Penguins stint as well.

I'd like him to continue but, you know, we'll see.

lol this. Some people are really silly and have a really shortsighted opinion, only based on the "what have you done for me lately" mentality...

Kovalev has been a great player in the hockey world... just always left people wanting more...

The Canucks brought in Sundin all those years ago, and while we certainly had something special before with our core (the Sedins, Kesler, Burrows), not only did Sundin teach our guys a lot, but we also got to juggle the lines and put players in roles we probably wouldn't have seen other wise. I like this signing for Florida, even if Kovlev turns into a plug. What he can teach your younger roster players, even those established NHLers that haven't hit their full potential yet, is invaluable.
