Look, I won't cash in Markov's check unless I see him play like a true #1. Until then, the spot is Subban's.

After Kaberle's 1st period, the price probably just went up by 500 K if Meehan is watching....

Care to enlighten us on what that is.

I like P.K. and hope we can get him signed sooner than later but make no mistake, it is P.K. who is playing hardball here. I don't like the fact that he didn't play hockey during the lockout and now he is holding out. Chances are that he is going to really struggle and hurt the team when he comes back. He has yet to put together a solid season from start to finish........maybe he should concentrate on that before playing hardball with the organization. It seems like he is trying to leverage his popularity and marketability ahead of his actual performance. Subban is a good young d-man but there still is alot of room for improvement. If he can play up to his potential the contract will be there.
Honest question, I do not know the answer. How many guys who didn't have contracts play during the lockout? I would think guys trying to get an RFA contract would think it was too signficant a risk to play in Europe. You get hurt, your RFA offer goes from millions to a ham sandwich. Did O'Reilly, Benn etc. play anywhere?

O'Reilley was in Russia.

Why the hell PK is still at home - A guy who during the whole lock out was saying he wanted to badly play , and play in Montreal and the Habs that he love so much ?

DelZotto was alredy in a locker room by himself at the rangers training centre and DEMANDED Meehan to get him a contract a.s.a.p. That's a guy who really wants to play.

Not only has the kid played some of the best D we have seen in years, but he is the most popular player this team has had in ages. Just to give you an idea, Subban has 3 times more twitter followers than Price.

Who's the last players in recent history to match his popularity?

PK Subban isn't going anywhere.
This is irrelevant,Jaroslav Halak was way more popular then him after his playoff run and he got traded by Pierre Gauthier who had the gm position for only 4 months. Also if you took the time to look at both Pk and Carey's twitter account, you would quickly realise that the only reason he has more followers is because he had a 1 year head start and because Pk is a lot more active then Price.

Halak trade doesn't compare, because for every Halak supporter, there was a Carey.bThere is no direct 1 or the other when it comes to PK Subban. It's not like we have 2 star D-man who want big contracts and we can only keep 1.

Secondly, PK Subban's account is 3 times bigger because PK Subban is more popular. PERIOD. I don't think that Price will have as many followers in 1 year from now that Subban has today.

You are correct. He signed a two year deal (which he can opt out of) and is making pretty decent money in Russia. Rumoured to be around $4M/yr.

Looks like we're in the same boat. Both O'Reilly and Subban are represented by Meehan's group, both guys want long-term deals, and both the Avs and Habs want a "bridge" contract.

Yep, Meehan got what he wanted. Subban won't be there for the first game unless Bergevin gives him the moon.

Who should break? Bergevin or Subban

Who do you think should break first and take what other side is giving? Your choice of:

-Bergevin should break first. He have a star player in his hand and should sign him for 5y + contract. He should also show that the management want to change the way the team always thought by showing they want to give full responsibility to young players.

- Subban should break first. Hes good but not that good yet. He should follow what the management always did by signing a 2 year mid contract before breaking the bank. He should also understand that if hes sign for 5-6m for multi year, media and pressure will go higher and mistakes will be harder to forget.

So who do you think should break first.? I vote Bergevin. Stop losing time Marc!!!

Subban, definitely.

Star player, probably, but he doesn't deserve big money over several years. He's one contract away from that, I believe, however team need over-glorifies everything else and Meehan isn't a dummy either. In the end, Bergevin will likely be the one that caves and gets closer to the deal Subban is looking for.

Interesting poll.

This is what I heard on the radio today : when Meehan was negotiating with NYR management for Del Zotto, his client was waiting in the locker room with his skates on. He told his agent to get a deal because he didn't want to miss the camp.

I wish PK would have acted the same way. Sure, we don't know what Bergevin is offering, but it can't be that bad.

Sign and play hockey PK. You're still RFA, your time will come and you'll get all you want.

It's all about being active in twitter...one guy use it every minute and the other one barely use it. I don't think we can use twitter to compare his popularity against Price. His popularity is not going to save him imo

"When Meehan was negotiating with NYR management for Del Zotto, his client was waiting in the locker room with his skates on. He told his agent to get a deal because he didn't want to miss the camp." Wow, that seems a lot different than PK's "I can't offer myself a contract". Must be that Del Zotto and his family are all Ranger fans or something.

Read from the bottom up:

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
There'll be fans & critics of #Habs @PKSubban1 as contract talks grind. He knows that. Fans certain of what he wants in fact do not know...

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
From #Habs @PKSubban1: "I love Montreal fans, they're a big reason why I love putting on the sweater every game."

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
From #Habs @PKSubban1: "I know what the fans want to see and that's heart & soul on every play. I think that's where we get along." 2/2

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
From #Habs @PKSubban1: "I truly love the fans and I think we have a great connection. Fans recognize fans!" 1/2
Expand
1h Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
Upon hearing of the "We want P.K.!" chant, @PKSubban1 sends a text: "Thank you! I miss you guys!" #Habs

More like down, Kaberle's point shot was a beauty. Markov and Kabs are going to run that powerplay like champs.

The Montreal ****ING Canadiens have 16,000 tweets. Subban has 2500 and Price has 140.

Followers:

Canadiens: 347,000
Subban: 196,000
Price: 67,000

Subban is star quality and draws followers because he has ''it''. That thing that ''stars'' have.

The fact that Subban is only 150,000 followers off the the Montreal Canadiens franchise official twitter account shows to what extent he has popularity.

Subban is just a magnet of attention and part of that is being active on twitter, but not all of the reason.

Disagree .....

WE are taking HOLD of our organization again. PK fits where Carey/Pacs were placed - NO player will be paid more than Carey - the "inmates" don't run the asylum - he fits, or is out, or traded (package for PERRY)
