Rats vs Lowell 3/2/05

Although neither team played well, the Rats kept up with the Lock Monsters for the first 35 minutes or so, but after Janssen got tossed from the game on a pretty weak charging call, the Rats seemed to unravel. Overall, it really looks like they've given up on the season, which is understandable given where they are in the standings. They are currently stuck at 47 points, and they will probably finish with fewer points than the 62 the team collected last year. The end of the season really can't come soon enough, but unfortunately there's still 22 more games left to play.

Here's the recap from the Times Useless:
A turn for the worst

also..as a sidenote, there are some *rumors* circulating that Brian Gionta may come play for the Rats for the remainder of the season. Don't know when or why, though.

Is that possible? If the season is officially cancelled, does that mean that the last year of Gionta's contract is up and he's an RFA and can sign a contract? That would be interesting. Does that mean other players can come too? Elias is a RFA... so are various others, like Gomez.

Put the EGG line in the AHL, eh?

Mike Commodore had a valid NHL contract for the 04-05 season and still was able to sign this year in the AHL on an AHL only contract. I think they just have to have one-way contracts.

If Gionta does come I could see him playing with Parise. Gionta wants to get in game shape for the World Hockey Championships.

That's possible... you're probably right.
