While the KO is a possibility (that only happens when you hit a certain spot on the jaw or behind the ear), the physics of that hit were textbook case of the type that cause concussions (i.e. the brain hitting the inside of the skull 1 or more times because of a sudden stop and change in direction). Hopefully it was the KO. Don't like to see big talents like that out because of concussion issues. Bad for the whole league not just STL in this case. Definitely know what that feels like for you guys....
That is just a horrible downgrade from Tarasenko to Porter.
Actually, its going from Tarasenko to D'Agostini (who had a pretty good game at Colorado). Yeah, its a downgrade, except that D'Agostini is better at playing within Hitch's system at this point in Vlad's career.
Porter will enter the rotation for the 4th line, but has to beat out Schwartz, Sobotka, Reaves, Nichol...one of them, to get on the ice.
I'm perfectly happy with Porter getting 4th line minutes. He always busts his ass and is fun to watch.
People speculating about the concussion, I think the critical detail is that he has ALREADY had one concussion this season. His chances of a long absence go up dramatically because of that fact. We'll just have to see, but I'll be happy just to see him return in time for the playoffs, and very pleasantly surprised if its a brief (2 week or so) absence.

Again... Tarasenko has not had a concussion before in his career. The incident with SKA, he cleared 2 tests in the days following the hit.
I just want to say that I hope Tarasenko will be back soon. He's awesome and it would be terrible if he doesn't win the Calder because he was hit by one of my favorite Avs.

That's good news, assuming they have the same threshold and scientific basis behind their tests. I thought he was out for a couple weeks, but most of my KHL news filters through unreliable sources.

He missed 2 games, SKA were playing the first of 3 games in 4 days though. I think SKA said they feared he had a minor concussion and it was taken as fact by the media. After their next game in Peterburg they said he had cleared the tests and would be considered for selection. When he returned, 5 days later, he was the 3rd forward in terms of ice time, behind Kovalchuk & Tikhonov.
That said, it looks pretty certain that he has a concussion now. The team might not have announced it, but if it was a purely physical issue (broken jaw etc) I assume he would have been on IR yesterday. It doesn't really make sense that it is precautionary since we have a roster spot open and only 1 game in the next 6 days. Disappointing that the team didn't announce the issue when they put him on IR.
That is the third time I've seen it described as a severe facial laceration now, not sure I remember noticing anything on the videos. Are there any photos of him?
A headache today isn't a good sign, but I assume that he has other symptoms as well since we put him on IR.

Just saw the video of the hit, don't like that his eyes were rolled back for a while. He was able to skate off under his own power.
Everybody responds to concussions differently so who knows how long he will be out. Hit looked legal, blindside and with his size I imagine the principal point of contact for a shoulder hit many times will be his head.
