More Trade Value: Iginla v Gaborik

Title says it all. Who currently has more trade value? I'm trying to gauge the market for Gaborik based on the trade rumors surrounding Iginla.

Iginla
GP: 25
G: 7
A: 12
Contract: Pending UFA

Gaborik
GP: 26
G: 8
A: 9
Contract: One more year at $7.5 Million (AAV and Actual Salary)

Iginla probably because of his resume as a leader. Gaborik's still the better player and less of a cherry picker.

i would say iggy but i still wouldn't want him considering the asking price will be way too high.

I'd take Iggy in a heartbeat. I doubt the asking price will be as high as everyone thinks... he's getting up there in age. Take him for his leadership role and let someone else play on the top line, it'll probably make him more effective anyway.

Iginla if it is about this year and the playoffs. Gaborik might be the better choice if yah need him for the next year but I am guessing he will be more expensive than Iginla

Short Term: Iginla
Long Term: Gaborik, primarily because of his age.

Gaborik because he's the better player and has another year left on his deal.

Gaborik may land you more assets as he is younger and has another year left on his contract. But if I'm a team looking to win this year, its not even close that Iginla is more valuable.

CBJ/FLA would rather have Gaborik while BOS/PIT would rather have Iginla.

That's how I look at it.

Gaborik can certainly be the better player but he has not been this year.

Even with Iginla's ice cold start and Gaborik's red hot start, Iginla has been better IMO.

Considering his point totals this season and the fact that the cap is going down next season, being signed for another year might hurt his value.

For a team aiming to win the Cup this season: Iginla.

For a team thinking further: Gaborik

Usually I'd say Gaborik but with the cap going down, there might not be that many trading partners having the capspace next season. So right now, it's Iginla.

I would definitely rather spend the assets on Iggy if it was for a playoff run. Not even close really for me. If its for multiple seasons than obviously Gaborik.

I'm baffled and I really don't know what you're basing that on. Iginla is a great weapon on the powerplay and is pretty much an ideal 2nd or 3rd liner - someone who can produce in sheltered minutes - but he's a liability at even strength.

What to do with Jarome Iginla
Quote:
This is all very much in line with the decline in Iginla's general effectiveness which I began to chart in 2010. A couple of seasons ago, he was merely average at controlling play and lagged behind many of his peers in terms of stature and pay across the league. Now, Iginla has entered liability territory at even strength - he consitently yields shots and possession against while he's on the ice and almost universally pulls down his linemates ability to control play as well.
Quote:
None of this means Iginla is worthless and must be immediately sent to the glue factory. He's iconic in the city and invaluable to the Flames marketing department. He carries a lot of weight and respect with other players and youngsters. He is highly competitive and still has a great release and shot, so is dangerous in particular circumstances. As a third line, PP option Jarome would probably still be a boon to most clubs in the NHL.
The Decline of Jarome Iginla
Quote:
Going forward, the Flames face a bit of a conundrum: they’ve built around Iginla with the assumption he’d be the primary difference maker up front indefinitely. Their farm system is totally bereft of similar quality talents. Paying a guy you have to shelter $7 million per season is obviously never an ideal situation..
