And judging from what I've seen since I made that post... Cam Janssen playing in the next game after tonight may suffice.

I love this

DeBoer said Matteau made the team on “merit.”

“He came to camp and earned the right to be in the lineup tonight, nothing other than that,” DeBoer said. “The 30 guys we brought to camp all were there because they had a chance to make the team and he separated himself from people over the four or five days.”

At this point I can't tell when someone's being positive or negative on this board anymore.

EDIT: Also wait, is that facebook pic actually real?

Haha definitely positive, an 18 year old impressing in an NHL camp that much is a good sign. I'm pretty pumped about him

I'm not sure if I should feel that Matteau making the team on merit is a good thing, because it means that an 18 year old Matteau must be pretty good, or a bad thing, because it means everyone else must have been terrible.

Last year our D wasn't that impressive but they were able to suprise everyone. I have a feeling that the offense can do the same this year. Josefson and Tedenby could breakout, Henrique can continue to improve, and we have a healthy Zajac in the lineup. Plus an actual 4th line. I think this group will surprise, and I think Matteau is a good fit at the moment.

I will love to see Matteau on the PP. He will sit infront of the goalie unless someone moves him. Hes a big guy. That wont be easy to do

Last year we had a bunch of veteran D who all were regaining previous standards of play. Outside of Fayne, you didn't really have anyone take a huge step forward compared to what they'd done before (Larsson doesn't really count, being a 4th overall draft pick). This season we're relying on a bunch of young forwards who have never proven that they're capable of anything like you describe. It's a very different situation.

We're going to need Lou to make a couple shrewd moves to add forwards.

I definitely expect a trade, but I still think the young guys will surprise. Starting with Tedenby.

I can appreciate the optimism, but I didn't see anything in Tedenby's AHL game to suggest he's about to take a big step forward.

So the 4th line from last year is currently our third line? Interesting.

as much as i want to disagree, i have to agree. i like him and want him to succeed, but hes still got work to do. he did turn it up lately in the ahl so thats a plus. just needs to continue that work, and click with anyone he plays with. he worked well with kovy so maybe hell get a shift or two with him.

That's what happens when you lose Parise, Ponikarovsky, Sykora, and have an injured Henrique, and replace them with no one.

Our forward depth is brutal.

Playing with Elias could be enough to take a step forward. Hell of a lot more options than Tim Sestito.

So Tedenby and Matteau and an unsigned Darche are "no one," HUH?

Well ****....yeah, you're right.

Didn't watch any AHL but the game doesn't necessarily translate one way or the other. A player can suck in the AHL and be good in the NHL, and vice versa.

If there's a solid bet though, Tedenby will be drawing penalties and if Shaw is successful with the PP, Tedenby can contribute greatly just by playing his game.

Exactly, Butler was lighting it up in Albany but was not good enough to make the team according to Lou.

This is pretty much a make or break chance for Tedenby. He's got a prime opportunity and not much competition.

That said, I'd be really surprised if Lou didn't add a winger at some point in February.

This is what I want to see when Henrique returns

Kovalchuk-Zajac-Henrique
Tedenby-Elias-Clarkson
Matteau-Josefson-Zubrus
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

I really like what I saw out of Matteau and hope he stays, 3 shots and 2 hits in 7 minutes. The top line might be too stacked though, but those lines really aren't that bad. Trading for a forward would make us even better.

If he's playing in a third line role and being successful at it, it's not wasting.

I have a hard time thinking he'd be here at all if Lou and Pete weren't serious about keeping him around.
