More likely to win a cup?

Joe Thornton or Roberto Luongo? Both slightly aging superstars that have never won the cup, which do you think is more likely to win it?

The way I see it is

immediate short term: Luongo(if he stays on the Canucks for this season)
medium term: Thornton(when Luongo gets traded to Florida/Toronto)
long term: Luongo(When San Jose winds down and Florida/Toronto start becoming contenders)

But that's just my speculation. Go ahead and use any logic you like. And make your final decision based on all factors.

Luongo, since he is currently on a stronger team.

Three or four games at the start of the season is not enough time to declare san Jose is better than Vancouver. If it were, the leafs and wild would have made the playoffs last year and split the presidents trophy.

Well the Canucks did beat the sharks 4-1 in a series so I don't get how that is funny.

Thornton simply because Luongo might get traded to a weaker team. Thornton is a sure-fire lock to retire as a Shark.

fun to select "about even" then see the reults, notice that "about even" is clearly the last choice , but the 2 other options are about even.

Knowing the Nucks luck that weaker team will win a cup the same year and leave us all hangin our heads.

Ill say Luongo cuz he's likely to play longer being a goalie, not by much, maybe a year or two, but its such a toss up that seasons left are really the only factor i put any stock in.

Canucks are more likely than the Sharks IMO. So it just depends on when Luongo gets traded, because he certainly won't win with Toronto or Florida anytime soon.

Considering Luo has a very good chance of being traded to a Toronto or Florida, Thornton.

Yeah, uh... pretty sure the team that just won two back-to-back President's Trophies and took a recent trip to the Stanley Cup Finals is better than last year's seventh place finisher.

Depends. If somehow Luongo stays with the Canucks he becomes the obvious choice.

BUT!!! If Luongo gets traded, and Thornton is either traded to or signed by the Canucks, then the obvious answer becomes Thornton.

THIRD OPTION!! Luongo stays with the Canucks and Thornton is traded to or signed by the Canucks - then obviously both will win the cup!

A year ago when the makeup of both teams was different... At this point in time, the Sharks are a better team. This may change throughout the season, when Kesler and Booth return, however we're also missing our top pairing d-man in Burns, and Demers.

Is either team really that different?

The Canucks only significant loss was Sami Salo. He was replaced by Jason Garrison, an upgrade in many ways.

The Sharks lost a couple depth forward in Moore and Winnik and added a depth defenceman in Brad Stuart.

Both teams are more or less the same as last season.

The two teams play on Sunday. If the Canucks win in regulation, they will be the "better" team this season as well.

I don't see how the scales tilt in either player's direction. About even.

Voted about even. Don't see either one of them winning the Cup.

Luongo, since if he goes to Florida he might win one there.

I feel SJ's chances are very bad since the west has a lot of playoff-style teams and I feel Luongo won't/ can't be in Vancouver.
