Scandella needs to show he can consistently handle NHL play before even thinking about being on our 2nd pairing.

You are totally right. Scandella on the 2nd pairing. Ick! So much inconsistency.

But Gilbert, Stoner, and Falk? Yeah, just hand those guy that #4 spot for this season and next too!

It's been one year. Last year Hamilton looked like the best defenseman of 2011.

Well, as much as we all beat the Brodin drum, Hamilton has been pretty good for Boston as rookie. I think Brodin is better, but it's not like Hamilton is now a shlub.

No, but he didn't get near the amount of praise or recognition Brodin did.

Just saying, it's early.

As if getting fixated in hindsight on a one single player who was drafted with later pick wouldn't be bad enough, do we really have to do it when neither of Dumba or Trouba have even played a game in the NHL?

Dumba was scoring 20 goals and laying kids oit his age in draft year, trouba was playing weeker talent and wasent overally dominate, then brokeout during wjc. Hard to predict that.

My top choice last year for defense were Rielly and Linholm, both were gone. Having said that while I wasn't thrilled with the Dumba pick, I think we did get a good one. He might need more seasoning before he joins the big league but he should be a good dman for us. I am encouraged by his play after the training camp, he really picked it up and played better.

We'll see tho, only time will tell.

I have faith in Dumba.. Possibly Iowa next season, but that kid reminds me of PK..

High energy guy with a great shot that loves to toss people around..

Some of his hits on YT are just brutal!

It's all based on age or how many years they've played in the CHL. He's too young to go to the AHL and has not had enough CHL seasons either.

Zach Phillips was able to go to Houston the year after the draft because he is quite a bit older than most in his draft class and most draft classes period. Dumba sadly does not have that benefit.

It is pretty stupid that CHL players aren't allowed to play in the NCAA. They would get a lot of really good 18-20 year olds playing in the NCAA for 1-2 years before they go to the AHL.

That would be a simple fix to that "gap".

Yeah well you know how the NCAA is, gotta keep their athletes enslaved so they don't have to share all that TV revenue.

I would be happy to see Dumba play in the CHL again. We've been spoiled with prospects like Granlund and Brodin who've shined in men's league. Sometimes, you need to be patient.

Exactly.

Besides, the kid is really, really young. I think he might need 1 or 2 seasons in Iowa before finally getting a part-time NHL run. It's the best path for his development, and letting him learn the demands of the pro rink thoroughly. Not only that, but he is really small and plays really big. He will need tremendous lower body strength and he also needs to improve on his skating as a whole. He is already fast but not necessarily as good of a skater as he needs to be.

However, he does have tremendous upside, and if he pans out, the Subban comparison might not be far.

Well, having 2-3 prospects actually pan out and be promising isn't exactly spoiled. But Dumba doesn't look anywhere near ready for the NHL.

Damn, Jarick, you're pessimistic about everything

Dumba looks out out there! I was able to catch a few games and to me he looked good. Another year of development and he's soon there.
