Eating food with gloved hands

I'm having a debate with a colleague so we're taking it to hf to get this sorted out. Whenever I eat chicken wings, popcorn, or other
messy food that is traditionally eaten with the hands I typically wear some form of hand protection. I like to wear it even eating pizza because sometimes the grease can trickle down your palm and around your wrist (depending on the quality of pizza). I submit to you defence exhibits 1 - 5:

I don't see the harm in saving your hands from getting soaked with grease, sauce, or other oils. Especially if I have 1 hand holding a slice and 1 hand holding a wing, and then I have to use the clicker to change channels. I can just wipe my hand on the towel and it's ready, or if I have to I can just pull off the glove and use the clicker, then put on another. There's no way you can easily use the clicker or pick your nose or wipe with toiletpaper if your hand is covered in wing sauce unless you get up to go wash. Suppose you go out to Hooters with a colleague and get the wings (as most people do). Can you easily shake hands when you part ways? Of course not - hands are greasy regardless of how many times you washed.

And I'm not necessarily talking about the playtex purple household gloves...simple, clear, vinyl, single use gloves would suffice. Would you find it really that disgusting to see someone eating fried chicken or popcorn while wearing gloves? Appreciate your serious responses.

Since you asked for a serious response I won't comment on the dedication to eating you have if you have a slice of pizza in one hand and a chicken wing in the other, and ask...

Popcorn? Really? What do you need protecting from when eating popcorn?

Women should always be doing this, so I don't see why it's an issue.

I where gloves 24/7. I don't want any pesky air particles near my paws.

What is the justification for getting your hand covered with butter and salt? Is it so offencive to let the glove handle that and keep your hand clean?

Maybe popcorn's different in America but I've never seen it slathered in something to the point where it becomes inconvenient to touch.

If your food requires you to wear gloves because there's so much grease, sauce, etc on/in it, I think your main concern should be eating foods that are more healthy rather than putting on gloves to protect your skin from the grease....

You were in the healthy lifestyle thread asking about better eating habits etc. You disappear from the thread and turn up a few weeks later talking about how you have to wear gloves because the food you're eating is so unhealthy... C'mon man, get your **** together.

Excellent idea. I love clean hands. I hate it when I have to wash my hands, dry them, then rewash because the fabric of the first towel didn't feel right, makes them feel less clean.

Occasionally (1/2 a year) I shower 4-5 times in a day. Love those days.

I've never even heard of this. I do use chopsticks with popcorn when I'm by myself. But I just love chopsticks.

Are you kidding? Gloves have components I wouldn't want in my food all the time. (Are you using medical grade ones? If not they can be shedding things like powder) Certainly not for licking off, ewww. Wash your hands well, including under the nails, don't suck your finger tips and have some big thick napkins ready.

The ONLY time it is acceptable to wear gloves when eating is to protect oneself from spicy (really REALLY spicy) foods.

Also OP... You said you like to wear them at a Hooters or something when out with colleagues so you can shake hands goodbye...your method of grease protection is only feasible if everyone at your table is doing it. Personally, I can't imagine all the looks one would get eating normal hot wings in public with gloves. The looks that a whole table of such pansies would garner is unfathomable.

I can maybe understand with hot wings and other spicy foods as I often end up getting traces in my eyes, but other than that, no. And it would definitely look weird wearing gloves for pizza and popcorn.

Yeah I really hit a few speedbumps over the holidays. I'm not out of it yet. But I was having popcorn as a filler instead of BK. I was wearing gloves so I didn't have to wipe off the salt and grease.

Don't care what others do. But that is weird, IMO.

Just dig in, get dirty and then wash your hands.

This. The only way I could fathom this outside of eating super spicy food, is if you're OCD about such things. If you're in public, eating such foods, then you know the mess that's about to occur. If you're worried about such mess, then you should look at less 'messy' foods while you're in public. In private for that matter as well. If things you're eating are THAT greasy and you won't change your diet, then I suggest investing in paper towels and blotting up as much grease as you can before you pick up said food items. If you can't enjoy the food you're eating without worrying about the what-if's, then I actually feel bad for that
