It's to make the 23-man roster. Once Bailey/Joensuu come back, Aucoin or Ullstrom will probably go down. When/if Visnovsky comes back, Finley or Strait will go down.

I'm guessing.

Looking at Pittsburgh defense and defense prospects; no wonder Strait was expendable at no cost.

Derrick Pouliot, Joe Morrow, Simon Despres, Olli Maatta, Scott Harrington, Brian Dumoulin, Robert Bortuzzo, Carl Sneep all still in the wings while Letang, Orpik and Martin on the big roster along with Niskanen.

Well, all the other GM's around the league should be wary of trying to sneak someone through waivers. Snow will screw up any of those plans. An Island of misfit toys is being assembled.

Jesus Christ what the hell is up with all the waiver pickups?

It seems like Islanders are grabbing everyone that is getting waivered. Have I missed something? Have your players all turned into DiPietro so you need some healthy players to fill in for them?

Snow probably has it in his head that the more transactions he pulls off, the better chance he has as Exec. of the Year.

In all seriousness, our blue line is pretty bad and we need bodies. All of our top defense prospects are not ready. Injuries have killed Bridgeport too.

Bailey and Jesse Joensuu(who was expected to make a play for a bottom 6 spot) are both injured

Vishnovsky was suspended

My guess is one of the waiver pickup defensemen will be sent down within a month(and the original team can reclaim them)

I think Snow has gotten hooked on waivers. He's hoping for another Grabner x10.

Strait is pretty unspectacular in every aspect but I think he can have a long career as a bottom pairing guy, might even develop into a #4 in his late 20s if every goes right for him.

I thought the Islanders were short some depth coming into the season and they've taken care of that. A lot of prospects and then their building blocks, but didn't have a lot else to fill out the roster. Now they do... I don't see this as awful either, gives their young guys time to develop and maybe they make something out of nothing with one of these guys.

The fact claiming these guys means Reinhart is being sent back to the WHL makes me happy.

Hamonic seems fine now, but he was out for a little while with a concussion (allegedly) so there's that too.

Other than Hickey, Finley and Strait have Bridgeport written all over them unless they come out like gangbusters and takes a spot.

Let's assume Visnovsky comes here in 2 weeks, I still think 2 of those guys stick(especially considering the injury history of a couple guys in our top 6)

If we send any of the waiver pickups to Bridgeport, there original team have the right to reclaim them

It very well could turn out that way. Considering Martinek has never been able to stay healthy. In the end, we needed depth on defense for the Isles and for Bridgeport.

The injuries have killed us over the last several years, it's not unwise to try and add some depth. It's not like any of the players that have been claimed are complete scrubs that have no business playing pro hockey.

I heard Radek Martinek broke his foot lacing his skates, he is out 9 months. They needed a body :-)

Islanders open tomorrow night. Will they be able to roll 4 lines and 3 pairings who have actually practiced together (or even met, for that matter)?

Nice pickup by the Isles. Strait can play imo (4-6 D-Man). He just needs a chance.
