Last night for some reason 2k13's servers were down and made Online association and all their other online modes unplayable. Just another reminder to me that even if my internet is good, their servers could go down at anytime and why Always Online would be an abject failure.

Next Xbox won’t force users to stay online to play games

Quote:
Good news for Xbox fans: Microsoft has decided to not commit commercial suicide by forcing gamers to have an Internet connection just to play games. Ars Technica has got hold of an internal Microsoft email to Xbox engineers outlining “a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection” and instructing the engineers to make those functions “‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status.” The email goes on to say that the new Xbox should be designed for “playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game” without an Internet connection. Rumors that Microsoft would require an online connection for single-player games gained fuel recently when former Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth told critics of an always-online console to “deal with it” because “every device now is ‘always on.’”

Thank ****ing god! All I need now is to be able to play used games without a fee

I'd pay 10$/month for live. I'm already paying what? 8$? I actually expected it to be higher.

Dude...eBay, Amazon, internet. No one pays that much for it anymore. The official price in Europe is about 60 euros for 12 months but I've paid that maybe once, in 2005. Then I found websites and one Finnish guy who sold the codes for almost half price. They went up a bit a year or two ago, but e.g. I bought a 12+1 month code for under 40 euros around Christmas time(saving over 20 euros).

I think that's a horrible name. Especially with the name like Infinite, which is an indeterminate number, being used on a console cycle of less than 10 years (probably).

Ya I would have just left it as Xbox.

Oh well... I do agree with the above poster who mentioned the Xbox live fees I am concerned about those too.

It's one thing when your system is superior, but over the last couple years Sony's has taken over and is way way better for less money.

I'm fine paying money for online if it's additional complimentary features, like PS+.

Things like Netflix, Hulu, and online gaming should not require any sort of payment beforehand aside from any subscriptions for those products themselves.

Imagine if they start trying to use some sort of quips/puns/phrases to use the name Infinity in their reveal... ugh...

Does it really matter what they call it? We're all going to end up calling it the Xbox anyway.

Could careless about that stuff the only reason I paid for XBL was the superior infrastructure. Not to mention no 30 minute firmware patches.

Then again I did pay for PS+ just for the free Vita games
