Perry or Getzlaf?

Both these guys are UFAs come July 1st granted they could be resigned prior, but if they're not as Hawk fans would you want Bowman to finally step up and make a bold move and make a play for one of them and if so which one? With Getzlaf our #2 Centre prayers are answered, imagine Getzlaf, Sharp and Hossa as a second line, or would we want a guy who ripped 50 a couple of years ago and who could do it again as well. They're both the same age and with Anaheim going backwards these days I could see one of them in the Indianhead soon. My pick would be Getzlaf.

Honestly? Neither. With the cap coming down next year, I am pretty sure it would require getting rid of one of our core pieces to acquire either.

I don't think the Hawks would have the cap space to sign either.

However if it's just a what one would you rather have period question.

Getzlaf and it's not close.

Perry plays a position we are deep at already and don't need. Plus he has a attitude I really don't like.

Getalaf solves tons of issues. A true #2 C, a leader on and off the ice, someone who can play the PK and PP well, he is a very physical player who hits a ton, he plays a very well rounded two way game, he can shut down his opposition as well as get you goals.

perry is probably more attainable than getzlaf would be.

perry's the better player, although getzlaf would fill more of our needs. i think that there's a good chance getzlaf re-signs in anaheim and i doubt they can afford both. the downside with perry is it means we'll end up with one of our top players playing out of position

i think it would be hard to attract getzlaf...he's the captain and 1c in anaheim - is he going to want to come here and end up as #2? i doubt it.

This. While Getzlaf would be nice to fill the 2C hole we have, we will already be flirting with the cap limit when it drops significantly next year. Buyouts will help a little, but I don't see us having the cap space to sign either without unloading some of our expensive core.

Hope to get one, will be happy either way, Montador and not resigning Stalberg while dumping Frolik allows it. I'd prefer Perry very easily, he's just too good to pass up on. Kane becomes 2C for good.

If we weren't loaded with Hossa and Kane, it would be Perry by a mile.

But since we are, Getzlaf.

However, IF the team plans on buying out Hossa in 14-15, sign Perry.

If they buy out Olesz and Montador they'll be at $54 mil with 17 players signed. Leddy and Kruger are RFA's so you can probalby get them for about $4.5 mil combined. That puts you at $58.5 mil with 19 players signed. Get a low cost back up goalie for $1.5 that puts you at $59.5 with 20 players signed. Not sure you can afford Perry or Getzlaf who will both get around $5-$6 mil. Maybe if you trade Frolik and bring up some kids.

they're both getting $5.3m off their UFA extensions. jeff skinner's RFA extension will kick in at $5.7. i'm pretty sure Perry/Getzlaf are going to be looking for a lot more than $5-$6m. they're both going to want $7 minimum, probably more.

1) Getz and Perry will get Parise money...maybe slightly less

2) LONG TERM, the hawks are nowhere near capable of fitting either of them under the cap, even with getting rid of Frolik, Montador, and Olesz

Getzlaf

I think they'll trade a couple prospects at the deadline to get him. They have, or can easily make the cap room for next season. The real question is where bolland will be resigned and for how much.

i was just thinking about it...they might actually create a bigger cap hit b/c backdiving contracts have been eliminated. parise's hit is $7.5m (which is what i was thinking Perry/Getzlaf) could get...but Parise has a 14 year contract.

Ya you are right. I didn't look at their numbers before estimating their salary. It will be interesting to see what guys get with the cap going down, not up.

This sounds about right.

It's funny you always hear in player polls about how Chicago is the most sought after destination and how they'd love to play here but when it comes to big UFA signings I never see any of them take a cap friendly contract to back up that statement.

You still have a cap going down 6 million I believe after this year, and contracts to extend coming up. It's not that simple

lol, keep setting yourself up so you can rant about the hawk's brass this offseason. It doesn't matter if they're getting rid of Folik, Montador or even Hammer, they're not going to add another long term high priced FA to the team with all the big money guys already on it. Especially with the cap going down, plus the most likely need for a goaltender....yeah, not happening.

While I would love to have Getzlaf on the team, Bowman should go after neither, as it would require dumping other pieces of the core to fit them in. Only way either of those guys join is by dumping one of Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa.

Getzlaf. I'd be willing to trade anyone not named Toews or Kane up front to get him.

Exactly my opinion, minus the Hossa buyout, I think that'd be a mistake.

Agree 100%. The thought that the Hawks add another $6+M player are really ludicrious.

Guys currently making $5.5M+: Toews, Kane, Hossa (more or less), Sharp, Seabrook, Keith. Thats the core, and even if Getzlaf isn't resigned by ANA, the thought that Hawks would outbid a team desperate for a #1 center is ludicrous.
