I thought the lockout would drive away old players, not bring them back. Nice to see.

Bouma's out with a season ending injury we need another grinder so he is a good choice.

Like the guy. Doesn't help the Flames much.

what happened to Bouma?

but back on this. Not a bad signing for a depth/grit forward. obviously won't be a gamebreaker, but thats not what he was signed for.

he'll probably only be used situationally. no real down side, since he won't be seeing a tonne of ice time. a last chance for a guy to finish his career as a role player.

He wasn't a third overall pick because he sucks. He also had a season of 40 points in the NHL, no small feat for a d-man. There was some belief (There still is, ask the Canucks) that injuries had hampered him and he might be able to rebound with the Oilers. He didn't.

As for Begin, good for him.

A tweet from him

With Hartley there, i thought they'd go after a french player, haha

I remember him with Montreal, he was pretty solid, especially defensively.

If that's the new standard, pretty much NOBODY should see the ice this year.

Bwahahahahahaha Holy moses!! You missed the point of my post by such a margin, that I may have been speaking another, completely alien to humanity, language. In no way shape or form was I comparing Begin to Crosby or Malkin. What I was pointing out (and not even subtly for that matter) was your propensity for bashing anything and everything the Flames do.

Thanks for the laugh though, I seriously enjoyed that.

Bégin is my favorite character to wear the Habs uniform in the last 10 years. He's one of the most energetic and hard working player you'll ever seen. He's the guy you want to send on the ice when your team is playing a boring and effortless game at home. He'll throw 3 or 4 big hits in 20 seconds and wake up the crowd and his teamates.

Expect him also to dive head first in front of slap shots. Yeah, he'll do everything to win, with limited talent.

Hopefully the surgery he got will make him look like he was 5 years ago.

Glad to see he got another job in the NHL. I honestly don't recall him even being on the ice during his PTO with Vancouver, obviously this wasn't the case this past training camp.

Good pick up at a risk free price. All the best for Begin.

No I didn't miss your point at all. You were saying the Flames could have signed an amazing player for no money and I would still be critical, implying that Steve Begin is at the minimum a pretty good player and not at all the washed up player he is. You saying I am critical of everything the Flames do is based on the air coming out of your backside and nothing else.

In all fairness he is only 34. Not exactly a dinosaur

I like Steve Begin a lot.

Not a talented guy, but the definition of "lunch box" player.

Shows up and goes to work, and never takes a shift off.

Reminds me of Stephane Yelle's tenure in Calgary. Good older player with specialties such as faceoff wins, with some injuries but still a fantastic heart-and-soul grit player.

These players are invaluable to any team. :]

Most FLames fans won't even remember him as a Flame I suspect.

Bouma injured both his ACL and MCL in the Heat's 3rd game of the season. Nothing dirty, just an awkward bump along the boards. At the time you could see him skate off with a limp but he kid showed his grit by still getting to the bench for a healthy body.
