I honestly could see that move getting us into the playoffs.
I don't like this because of Luongo's contract. But if a deal is a must then deals should have clauses that minimizes the latent cap recovery liability. If Luongo retires before the end of the contract, a team trading for him could be stuck with a liability up to $6M+. with uncertain timing. For example, Toronto or any other team trading for a player with these cap circumventing clauses should require conditional draft picks that depend on if and when a player retires prior to the end of the contract. That's the only way a trade for Luongo would make any sense to me. However my strong preference would be to just leave these contracts with other teams.

Bieksa

To Vancouver:

Grabovski
Frattin
Holzer
Franson

Sure our offense takes a hit, but this move would give Vancouver cap relief for next year to get them down to 60 million. It'd also give us our goalie and give us another top four dman. With Bieksa being a leader for the younger guys that is good in his own end and has been to the finals.

New top four of:

Gunnar-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Bieksa
Vancouer with or without Luongo see themselves as contender and that window where they're a top contender is closing. So far that reason I don't see them having any interest in trading Bieka unless it helps them win now.

Bieksa is a good 3 zone dman who naturally plays the right side (about 2/3 of all D are lefties). As much as I like Bieksa I don't think it's realistic for the Nucks to trade him during the season for depth players who can barely get into our lineup in Frattin, Holzer, Franson. Maybe in the off-season cheap salary players for Bieksa would interest them just not right now.

If the Nucks will move anybody for salary reasons it will be Booth or Ballard. Both players I wouldn't touch unless we were being given something to take their contracts.

Leafs goaltending in better shape than the Nucks.

Actually almost every other team in the league's goaltending better.

Vancouver needs starting goaltending. Kassian, Tanev and a 1st for Scrivens.

They'll never win a game without a good goalie.

How hilarious would it be if Lu put out a statement that he'd only waive his NTC for the Rangers (or any team with a 100% cemented in starter)

I find in our own end we are keeping players outside for the most part. Thus if u have a good goalie that sees the puck well should be successful. Pitt was sooo frustrated because they couldn't really get a tonne of in close action.

I truly wish he would put the Leafs on a list of teams he won't waive his NTC for and put this to bed once and for all.

Yes, to protect Leafs management from being swayed by all the Toronto media pushing for him to be traded here.

Vancouver squeaks out a shootout win, only scored 2 goals though. Was hoping they'd lose, loading up the popcorn for this soap opera.

Luongo does not mean playoffs.

We don't need him,yet alone his contract. He now has zero value to us .

Kadri and Gardiner for Luongo

Pass the bong Gillis.

With that contract, he's NEGATIVE value. We should commit to youth throughout the roster, including in goal. Our goalie of the future is NOT Roberto Luongo...

He's way to classy to do that, but that would be hillarious

Why am I not suprised the Lou thread would pop up after a bad game. The bipolarity is strong with many here. Lou's contract will cripple an organization for many years, big pass, and hope some posters will come back to reality.

Let's not start this again. We do not need Roberto Luongo, at least not right now.

we will never need him enough to swallow his contract. There is noway he plays the last 3 years of his contract. Who wants to have to pay that caphit when he is gone. Seems like way to much cash to pay for 4 or 5 years of good goaltending(Hopefully). Oh and give up a couple of guys who could play another 15 years apiece. (Hopefully). How does that make sense to any sober thinking human being.

The way Kadri and Bozak are playing, I wouldn't even consider trading them for Luongo.

I wonder if Grabovski or MacArthur would interest Vancouver. Possibly both of them.
