Flyers have signed Mike Knuble (one year, $750,000 -- will wear number 9)

Quote:
With the news Thursday that Scott Hartnell is expected to be out of the lineup for up to two months, the Flyers didn’t wait long to look to find a replacement.

And it’s a familiar face as well.

General manager Paul Holmgren confirmed that pending a physical Friday the Flyers will sign unrestricted free agent Mike Knuble to a one-year contract.

“Obviously we’re familiar with Mike,” Holmgren said. “He’s a good guy, big, heavy player and we think he’s a good guy to throw in the mix right now… with the injuries we have.”

Knuble, 40, spent four seasons with the Flyers from 2005 through 2009 when he scored 144 goals with the team before signing a free agent deal with the Washington Capitals.

After three years in D.C. Knuble was out of the NHL this season but signed a professional tryout contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL after a tryout with the Detroit RedWings.

If Knuble passes his physical, he would be able to suit up for the Flyers as soon as Saturday in Florida.

Sam said the source expects Knuble to play in both games this weekend.

what ever it takes to keep Shelly in the pressbox. I like the guy and he is apparently a great team guy in and around the dressing room. However his on ice contributions are far from writing home about as we all know.

Im glad Knuble got signed, maybe he still has some juice in the tank. Dale didnt use him right. He could possible be on a pp parked in front of the goalie, he was good for that on the caps. Also he is a great locker room guy.

He is going to have to find a new number with Schenn already wearing 22

He is classy, but man is he so slow now. Going to be tough to watch him sometimes I think.

Hartnell is out for awhile and laughton is coming up to a decision. Even with laughton staying one of sestito and shelly will play. Knuble is easily better than both

Knuble won't be asked to do much. Put in solid 4th line minutes, get to the net on the power play. We already know he will be a good teammate. They can't have Sestito and Shelley in the lineup at the same time. I'm not even sure they had any real intentions on having Shelley actually play in games.

I'm hoping its just 4th line plus PP time. He might be useful on the PP still.

If he plays with Laughton or even Wellwood, he can be a good vet influence
