So how do people pronounce Silfverberg?

I dont watch many Ottawa games but just heard an announcer on Gamecenter sell it as it's spelled, but really in swedish its pronounced Silverberg.

How often do people do this highly unfortunate thing?

I just say "Silverberg" because the "F" doesn't sound pleasing to my ear.

As a sidenote i can add that it's old swedish spelling, it really should be Silverberg.

I always heard it pronounced Silferberg (no v) so that's how I said it. Glad I know now.

I wouldn't feel too bad though. CBC botches Kadri's name all the time as well. Half of them say it like Codri when it should be prounounced like Cadbury. (hence Nigel Cadbury). I would think Kadri was a pretty simple name to pronounce. Basically sounds how it's spelled. At least with the "f" in Silfverberg it can conceivably throw people for a loop.

Sens fans do as well, but it's his first name that's the problem. Jacob? Yakob? Jakob?

He told Brown that he prefers Jakob as in "Ja-Kub"

If I remember correctly, he told the Ottawa media a while ago to pronounce it with a hard J sound. Tough to write out phonetically, but something like JAH-cub.

And yeah, I've always heard Silverberg.

I remember hearing foreign commentators pronounce it Seelf-vair-bairg (complete with rolling R's), so I'm guessing that's how it's said. Although that's a bit awkward to say in a North American accent, so I'm cool with calling him just Silverberg, plus it's a wicked sounding name.

Maybe it's becouse they have been in north america for a while, becouse i would guess it should sound pretty much as its spelled too with their obvious background in thought, or maybe Kaddri. "Cadbudy" is off the charts as far as my imagination goes. What is that, some kind of denial from their part?

I stress the "f" and the "v" and add a Scottish burr.

Also, Anders Lindback. Just say Lindbeck and you have it. No need for the "aawh", you're not at the dentist's.
