Absolutely no-risk signing. We are in dire need of forward depth and Gomez helps in that area. Whether or not he pans out, at least we can say at this point that there is a chance he will be able to improve the team.

When I heard Sharks were interested in Gomez, I was hoping it wasn't true, but 1yr/700k contract, for a guy with that much talent. I don't see a downside to this signing at all.

Getting Gomez a roster spot is easy but when they need to move a roster player to get Demers and/or Burns into the lineup it's likely to be some combo of Sheppard, Irwin, Petrecki & McLaren going.
Actually i am a fan of sheppard, i just don't think to many if any would take the chance on him.

HATEHATEHATE on DW.

This seems like an all-upside move.

I don't remember Gomez getting much PK time, but he was injured for a good chunk of last season, plus the Habs already had/have some great PK forwards. In theory, his speed could make him effective.

PS: I've noticed YT clips posted of Gomer's past highlights in this thread. Don't expect him to magically recreate those moments. He may not have lost the physical ability to shoot and score, but his mental confidence and commitment made him next to useless over the past two years. Move him into the offensive zone and he disappears like a Spinal Tap drummer. Habs fans waited for him to return, and waited... and waited some more. Again, the Sharks might be the perfect antidote for him. I have nothing against the guy and hope he does for you what he didn't for us.

I keep picturing Torrey Mitchell's legs on Kyle Wellwood's body.

I hope it's a lot better than that.

There is a whisper that Gomez may play in Worcester on a conditioning stint. Nothing even close to official obviously...

Like I've said before, somebody needs to make that sign and bring it to HP and/or start that chant...
Agree with this 100%. To get the best value out of a great passer like Gomez, he should play with wingers who can finish. Galiardi and Wingels cannot. Trade Clowe while he is still worth something.

This is EXACTLY like the A's signing Manny Ramirez last year. All upside absolutely no downside.

I would like to see Gomez prove it in Worcester as well before coming to SJ.

Let's hope he has a little more left in the tank than ManRam did

Gomez signs one-year deal with Sharks

Gomez signs one-year deal with Sharks

Hi!

Habs fan coming in peace! I just want to wish you the best with Scott Gomez. I think that at that price and with a limited role he could be helpful for your team. Probably not at an all-star level but still. He needed a change and unless they ask him to be a mentor, it is a low risk - ??? reward signature for you.

Good luck, and let's hope to face each other this season (because with the calendar, that would be in Stanley Cup finals!), even if it is probably impossible on our side.

What do you think of Gomez?

seems strange that they would send him to worcester with the way they have been talking.

If he isnt fit enough for NHL duty I cant see why they signed him. If he is, why send him down? especially when familiarity with line mates in this type of season is more important.

I don't think they would send Burns to the IR right away if the plan was to send Gomez to Worcester for a conditioning stint, would they?

Not on a conditioning stunt, unless that changed in this CBA.
