Apparently its possible that he may or may not meet with the Ducks (who knows if he already did) but judging by this article, I think we could be a few hours away from a signing if he's in Calgary. But him being on the ice with us in Calgary could just be a tryout no? Normally when teams have guys try out for them they do that back at home but since they're in Calgary I guess they have to do it there. Nevertheless though I hope we sign him for at least $1 million because we could really use the depth and some veteran leadership but knowing DW he'll probably sign him for $2 million or close to it.

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks Haven't seen this DO IT! and DON'T DO IT! feedback mix from fans in a long time. And, yes, I sense #SJSharks are about to sign Gomez.

These fans probably think we're paying him 7 mill or something. For <1 mill, it's not a risk since that's around where our 4th liners are making... hell Handzus is making 2.5 mill and he might be centering the 4th line if Gomez pans out as a 3rd line center.

If this guy can clear his head (put MTL behind him) and is motivated, it'd be a great addition. Doubt DW signs him for more than $1m.

He or Wingels would be ideal top 6 fill-ins. If Wingels can finish, I like those together with Galiardi. It'd be a very speedy 3rd line.

I think the Stl series last year exposed us for our lack of speed and inability to breakout through the opposing blueline. Gomez has great speed and ability to break through the neutral zone. I'm with you guys, for $700K this is low risk, high reward. Hope he gets to suit up by the Edm game.

Gomez will bring nothing but good things to the Sharks. I think the Montreal issue is purely because its Montreal and nothing else.

Nothing new to add, but I'm with the majority here; I'd be excited if they can get this signing done for a reasonable price. I think the stress and expectations would be lessened to a point where he can function once again.

If Handzus is our 3rd line center, yes we could use Gomez.

I can't see anyone offering more than 1m. And for Gomez, I really don't think it's about the money - he already has a hefty pay check coming from Montreal whether he plays or not. This is just an opportunity for him to salvage his career by proving he can still make a positive contribution to an NHL team.

I'm all for it. He's also a great voice in the bench. Despite his scoring woes, it's been said that his teammates really appreciate his presence.

Yeah, but you know how DW operates.By the time he actually signs the contract, we'll have gone from a proposed 1 year, $700k to 5 years at $3.5m per with a full NMC.

That fact that the deal isn't done makes me think that the term/price might be a little different than what is being tossed around here.

Yup.

There's nothing more dangerous than DW negotiating against himself.

Unfortunately true.

Maybe. Just maybe. DW won't do that this time?

He will bring a definite improvement to our 3rd line as compared to with Handzus in that spot.

"Hey Doug, since I'm earning over $5M from the Habs this year, I think I'll do a service to your team and take a league minimum contract."

"Are you sure, Scott? I mean, you are a veteran with a Stanley Cup, I think you might be selling yourself a little short"

"Yeah, I've made enough money over my career, I just want to settle down out of the spotlight and play hockey."

"We'd love to have you, but I'm sure you should earn more than league minimum. I mean, you id score 70 points a few years ago."

"Yeah, but like you say, that was quite a few years ago. I'm ready to just play hockey without people looking at my contract against my production."

"No, I insist. Take this 3 year, $9M contract, with a full no-movement clause."

"But-"

"No buts. Enjoy your obscene and well-deserved wealth."

Get the deal done! I've gone from 50/50 to being all for it. I just feel like he'd fit in really well in San Jose.

If DW gives him more than $1m and/or 1 year, his job will be on thin ice.

He gave burish more than a mill and no one seemed to care. He's a grinder for crying out loud.

A 3C play maker? Probably looking at close to 2 IMO
