Why "or"? The Sharks have plenty of cap space. A contract around 1.5m isn't ideal, but it wouldn't be horrible as long as it's a 1 year deal.

A 3C play maker? Probably looking at close to 2 IMO
But it would be pro-rated.. so I wonder if that is what is holding it up..

$700k for THIS season would be about $1.5 million for the year

So are we talking $1 million total and a prorated sum.

People get confused with bad PLAYER and bad VALUE. Gomez was a player who was a bad value due to a very stupid GM banking on repeats of a career year. Gomez has been so maligned because of that huge cap hit. He's still a very viable NHL player, though.

I agree, he's a good bottom 6 player, but I don't think we should spend a penny over $1 million or give him more than one year before we see how he fits with the team. The Burish contract was awful, can't afford to dole out the big bucks to every grinder.

$2,813,333 isn't cap hell, but it's too close for comfort.

DW has to figure out who to trade for a conditional 7th so that they can give Gomez his 5-year, $28 million full NMC contract and still be cap compliant

They paid Torrey Mitchell more than 1M. Gomez is better than Taco.

and he will. They're just waiting on Legal to dot all the i's and cross all the t's before they can let Gomez sign his brand new 8-year, $68m deal with a full NMC and input on all potential roster moves.

They probably waited to see how they look without Gomez. Since they won, they won't sign him now.

At least it strengthens their hand. We don't NEED you, but maybe we'll let you play for us.

Gomez' home town paper (Anchorage Daily News) puts its two cents in, thinking that he'll sign with Sharks, perhaps on Monday, a day off.

at this point, he might as well either sign with us or do a full heel turn and sign with the ducks

Or perhaps, it's more like, since they won, DW will say "Scott you play here for $750k-800k (Plus natually, whatever he's getting from the Habs) or find some other place to play." (And only this season and we'll talk future in the summer)

But if they lost and looked bad, DW would have said "Scott we need you. 2 years, $1M this season, $1.5M next, and full NMC."

Lot of Gomez haters here... must not have actually seen him play when he was healthy. If they sign him I bet he supplants clowe on line 2 within 10 games. dude has too much game to just be a 3rd liner. Definitely gets PP time from the get go.

He's only 33 (I think?) not 43. No reason his game should have that big of a drop off unless injured which he was last year.

Getting overpaid in his last contract is not his fault.

Gomez did put up 59 pts 3 seasons ago. 38 pts 2 seasons ago. Sharks aren't the ones paying him 7 mill so who cares if he doesn't put up the 70-80 pts his pay warrants. 40 pts would be great for a 3rd liner.

If we sign him for 2 mil for 2 years or even 3 years it would be a major steal. This guy is easily better than Ray Whitney who got 4.5 for 2 years as a 40 year old. Put him with Juicy and Havlat and he gets 50 pts.

Woah there. You do know Ray Whitney put up 77 points LAST year. More than Gomez has had since 05-06.
Whitney trumps Gomez at this point in their careers. Given the choice between Gomez 2 years @ 2mil and Whitney at his price i would go with The Wizard everytime
