I love how nonchalantly Rick Ball mentions the save on Selanne when it was easily the best save of the period.

Unless it's a really good shot.

haha, he wasn't. I think it was Dallas who took a flyer on him last year and he did pretty well.

I was going to say that to, that could easily been a goal.

I can't shake the feeling that he's calling him La-Longo on purpose, there's no way you could butcher that name on national TV so many times without someone correcting you.

True, they have looked good.

But in general, both teams are still off a bit.

Rick Ball has no emotion when a great save is made or a goal is scored. He's been monotone throughout the entire broadcast.

How hard is it find a good play-by-play guy? I'm sure there is tons of talent out there, just need to find it.

Cherry's volume is the loudest I've heard him tonight. Love him screaming about his unnatural love for Eric Brewer.

"THE CAPTAIN!!!! WHY WOULD YOU TRADE THE CAPTAIN!!!!!!! GOD I LOVE THIS KID!!!!!!! THE CAPTAIN!!!!!!!"

To spread out the ice-time, I guess. That 2nd line is being treated like a 4th line right now. Meanwhile Weise is on pace for 14 minutes in this game...

Can't imagine Ebbett lasts past these first two games.

If he just sticks to how he thinks you should play (hard but clean) then sure.

his problem is mostly just the refusing to learn the names of and opening insulting european and french players.

Did Mike Gillis REALLY say that Vancouver had the longest sell-out streak in the NHL? Maybe the longest in the team's history, but certainly not in the history of the NHL. There are several going on right now that are longer than the Canucks streak is, and if they sell out every game for the next 50 years they still will not surpass the longest streak.

Notes for the 1st period:

- Garrison is a monster. That man is terrifyingly good.
- 4th line playing great. Weise and Volpatti are really picking up their game.
- 3rd line's solid so far. Good mix of offense and defense. Lapierre looks decent out there.
- 3rd pairing's playing tons of minutes. Every time I look, I see Ballard and Tanev out there. AV's showing a lot of trust in that pair and it'll help the top 4 stay fresh this season.
- AV doesn't trust that second line with Ebbett at all. 4th line's been logging way more minutes than the 2nd line.

Good period to start the year. Both goals were against the flow of the play - first one was a perfect deflection, second maybe could have been had but Souray's shot is massive.

Weise looks like he's taken a step forward, he and Volpatti look good. Raymond, Hansen, Sedins also good starts. Hamhuis-Bieksa with an excellent period.

Burrows looks really average.
