In that case, let the Leafs make an offersheet...

Maybe that`s why he won`t sign. He just doesn`t want to play anywhere.

I think it's great IF the Habs want to build for the future.

However... What I'd do?

I'd wait.

I think an offersheet can bring much more to Montreal than just Rielly, as good as Rielly is. The good thing is : if an OS is presented next week, the Habs have one week to equal it.

Which would bring us to 1/4th or 1/5th of the season.

You want Subban? Go for an offersheet.

If, after 12 games or so, the Leafs are something like 3-8-1-0... react accordingly. If they're 8-3-1-0, react accordingly.

The thing I don't know is if Subban is completely frozen after an OS has been made, and if MB can sortof "blackmail" Toronto into giving them Rielly by threatening the Leafs to actually equalize the offer.

LOL i love when leaf fans chirp hab fans about arrogance and entitlement. Every single interview he has ever given - including this week where he has asked hab beat reporters to tweet hab fans to tell them he misses the fans, team and city - suddenly all of this is not true. PK grew up a hab fan - like his dad...has talked about wanting to play his whole career in montreal -and now suddenly he's always wanted to play in TO and they are his team.

now i know what bolts fans feel when hab fans pull this **** with lecavalier

i'd also like to see a team offer-sheet the habs, because i would very much hope that molson and his deep pockets remember this when that team has a UFA or RFA.

Toronto adds Kulemin or Kadri and Montreal adds Leblanc and I think we're close.

It's not an option, he cannot be trade once signing an OS. We saw the same thing with Weber this off-season. It will be interesting to see if a struggling team panics and throws an OS at Subban. For Subban, at this point, it may be better for him monetarily to not sign anything in the next week or so.

The beauty of an offer sheet is that you don't have to match and can get compensated with draft picks. I mean, you either figure what Molson throws at your RFA is worth it and you get your player signed. Or you take your draft picks (which could be high coming from Montreal) and you move on. It is really an empty threat unless it is coming from a contender imo.

Usually before a team offer sheets a player the two teams discuss trade possibilities. With Weber, Nashville wanted Couturier and B. Schenn and trade talks quickly evaporated.

Also, I don't see Montreal not matching an offer sheet from Toronto, tbh.

Lol I'm a Leafs fan and I wouldn't match an offer sheet from us. I'd be all like "lulz okay gimme my 4 1st overalls plz."

It would be a fairly silly offer to end up with 4 1sts, I think 2 1sts would be more likely. Reasonably, I expect Toronto to be drafting 10th - 15th overall and also, I'm not interested in waiting 5 years for the players to be NHL useful/ready.

Could work, but TOR has to still add quite a bit.

This would be comparable to MTL offering Beaulieu for Gardiner. It could work, but MTL would have to add quite a bit to make it work.

Burke could have been dismissed so the Leafs wouldn't end up giving plenty of top 2 picks to a regional rival for years to come!

Not bad.. except MTL already has 8 NHL defenseman on their roster not including Subban. This doesn't really help that.

I do love Nino though.

I would only give up Subban (straight-up or in a package) for a proven 1st liner a la Corey Perry (if he was to sign). The Habs have gone too long without a gamebreaker it's ridiculous.

How much money does Subban want, anyway? Locking him up long term would significantly hamper the Leafs' ability to throw around stupid money when free agency rolls around.

The main rumour seems to be Doughty money. 8 years, $60M. Although I'm sure he'd accept something around $5M. The holdup is that Bergevin doesnt EVER want to give guys coming off their ELC anything more than a 1 or 2 year bridge contract.

I think they aren't too far off on the money (maybe a bit) but they are really far off on the term.

Subban for Neiderreiter + not all that much is a trade that actually works for both teams.

Subban and John Tavares are friends. mark Streit is an impending UFA. Subban can anchor the PP and be a physical presence.

Neiderreiter is the combination of size, speed, and skill that Montreal has not had in a LONG time.

This is a rare:this can work for both teams kind of trade.

Montreal fans just have to hope that Andrei Markov's plastic? knee can hold up long enough for Nathan Beaulieu to develop into a PP QB kind of defenseman.

Then sit back and imagine a Niederreiter-Galchenyuk-Collberg line...
