Ray Shero should look seriously at Subban because if any team needs a shot of aggressiveness on defense it is certainly Pittsburgh.

Which is why I said I doubt we have anything worth offering, we do however have a big need on our blue line right now.

That is not what I want to see at all.

I think Subban would get a huge return if he was really traded and the Habs would probably want even more from the Bruins.

Before the season started I would have been willing to trade Dougie Hamilton for Subban, but after seeing him play for the Bruins I wouldn't do that either and the Habs would probably want more than that.

I don't think it is possible for these two teams to make a deal for a player like Subban.

It's not like Burke came to chia and said "I'll give you 2 1sts and a 2nd" just like that. There was a RFA compensation which set the guideline (1st,2nd and 3rd for Kessel's salary I believe) and there was at least some kind of bidding war (Nashville was right there until the end). That's what drove the price up, not just burke's overrating of his own roster.

If the new CBA didn't change the RFA compensation table dor 12/13, Subban's price range (5-6.7m) still falls into the 1st, 2nd, 3rd compensation. There might be even more bidding for Subban. Kessel and his 36 goals was probably a better player in 09 than Subban is now, but young defensemen with all star potential are highly sought after. And the habs could still match an offersheet. So I don't think it's ridiculous that Subban returns a package near Kessel's value. Certainly more likely than that his value is suddenly halved. Habs still dhold all the rights.

The Kessel deal was pretty much a RFA offer sheat, genius.
Yeah it will happen again.

If the last offseason taught us anything about Holmgren, its that he is more likely to offer sheet Subban than trade for his rights.

Galchenyuk might be playing 3rd line center for the entire year, you never know. On the top 2 lines you have DD and Plekanec and White on the fourth line. Eller is being benched right now and I don't even know if he's going to play Sunday.

I honestly don't know the answer. Are you looking at 1-2 teams seriously bidding or 10? Keep in mind the cap drops back to $64M next season.
I can think of at least 2 teams that have the young assets and the glaring need for a young d-man of Subbans calibre.

Philly = Coots + Pick
Edmonton = Yakupov + pick

There are probably more but those 2 stand out the most. I know more fans of those teams would not like the cost but getting a guy of subbans age and calibre of play, its gonna hurt alot.

I only brought up Kessel because I said the fact that Subban doesn't have a contract will bring down MTL's possible return. So someone countered with "Kessel"

Kreider, Stralman a 2nd in 2013 and a 1st in 2014

Immediately pair Subban with McDonagh

The Habs should try to get Yakupov from the Oilers with Subban. Yakupov and Galchenyuk would be deadly in the future

1. Why would we trade for a D when the only hole we have in that position is our 3rd pair RHD? Granted, it would be nice to have (yet another) bona fide top 4 D, but it's overkill for what we need and would cost too much in assets.

2. How do you suppose we'd give McDonagh, Stepan and Hagelin their raises this off season with Subban on the books for about $5M? We have enough salary tied up into a small number of players already with Nash, Richards, Gaborik and Lundqvist and fitting our RFA's into the cap next season will be a squeeze already.

I read an article on RDS stating that Carbonneau has found out through Subbans agent Don Meehan that he suggested PK sign the 2 year 3.0 to 3.5 million contract that MB was offering him.

It's Subban apparently that will not sign unless he get's "what he deserves".

Go on RDS and the article is there.

If I were MB and Subban didn't want to sign, I would trade him only if I get fair value back or a player that can help the team the way Subban would.

If not... let him rot for the next 4 years untill he hits unristrected free agency and signs with who he wants.

MB will not deter from the teams policy to offer bridge contracts as the players second contract. Doing so for him would be a spap in the face for every young player that signed their bridge contract before him.

I have to say an offer sheet will be the best scenario for the Habs. Unless ofcourse the offer sheet amount is absurd. Habs would match it and that way they don't break team contract policy.

Anyways at this point I couldn't care less about Subban anymore let him stay at home in T.O and wait it out.

If a trade is to be made I would want a 1 for1 trade... quality for quality.

Something along the lines of Subban for Bobby Ryan.
