Kessel?

Phaneuf looks lazy because he's reserving his energy! He played almost half the game! Of course he's not gonna run to every puck like a Mike Brown. He has to be smart about how he plays. Unfortunately, for him, Carlyle is going to play him like crazy and its gonna make him seem lazy, but he's just being smart by reserving energy.

You'll know he's being lazy when he's being beaten wide, but he didn't let anyone around him that game.

With that said, he's still clearly rusty. His hands seemed a bit off, just like everyone else on the ice, and I'm sure he'll improve each game.

By the way, I thought Kessel looked great out there. Was very impressed by him.

Lupul... not so much.
He did not play a lot since last March so I would cut him some slack for sure.

He's been playing in the KHL, hasn't he?

All the guys who played in the KHL seemed much worse than I expected them to be.

The only thing Phaneuf should be chirped about is how on the PK he fires the puck so hard on the boards that it cycles all the way back to the Leafs end

The Habs were dominated; except for about 2 minutes. This was not a close game; despite the result. The Leafs did not bring their best to the table; yet easily took this one.

I think if Kessel had a winger like Stalberg opposite his wing, he would have 40 assists every year. It seemed like he was in the offensive zone himself like 3-4 times.

The Habs are a bottom feeder team with one of the best goaltenders in the league.

That shows how bad their D and forwards are.

I feel a bit sad for the habs, to be honest.
I know it's early, but I could see them being just as abysmal as last year.
As a leafs fan living in Montreal, it's less fun when they are all depressed and don't even have the will to talk smack back to me.

Perhaps it was simply because the rest of his line was playing nowhere near as well as he was (even though Komarov wasn't that bad).

If he plays only 10 minutes again in the home opener, I'm going to start wondering if the management just doesn't like him for some non-hockey reason, 'cause he looks like he's finally arrived.

no worries

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I was really nervous about a defensive end draw with 7 seconds left in the game. Something in my mind just told me, its the same old Leafs and they will find a way to blow it. But they completely had, I don't want to say dominated the game, but aside from a couple minutes after the goal they had controlled the game for a lot of it.

And the comments about Scrivens are not fully justified. Yes, he did look a bit shaky at times, but he did what he was suppose to do....keep the puck out of the net.

Lmao........ Yep my Hab friends are very quiet today.

Reality just set in for them. I told them the Leafs may not be very good yet but they're worse. And we at least have size coming through our pipeline of prospects. Not more smurfs.

Btw, did anyone else notice that Liles was playing the body yesterday? I was impressed by that. Did he ever do that in Colorado or do you think it's because of Carlyle he was playing like that?

Kessel did a few times too, he was actually going after the puck along the boards when there was other players fighting for the puck.... So I'd attribute that to Carlyle

He actually said that? Wow, I respect Carlyle quite a bit.

Yeah you're probably right, I did notice that as well. I was very impressed by how our first line was forechecking aggressively and hemming the Habs in their zone.

There were a few players who were noticeably more physical. I would count Kulemin amongst them as well.

Carlyle has made it clear that they need to engage physically in every shift.

I'm thinking Carlyle will put a more physical style in their heads as time goes by. It sure didn't hurt last night.

You are right, he was playing the body very aggressively all night. He has always been an up tempo, aggressive defenseman in all aspects of the game, But what we saw last night was not the norm. If he keeps it up that would be awesome.

Franson using the body surprised me the most.

One more think that really caught my eye. JVR looked ****ing huge lol. Might be because we were playing the habs, but wow.

He wasn't scared to get in front of the net, and I really loved what our 3rd line did last night.

JVR looked slow and fumbled the puck a lot. He is definitely not in form right now.

That said, we have needed a big bodied skilled player that can go to the net for a while, and JVR showed glimpses of accomplishing that need.

Do you remember when Hughson said "Whoa van Riemsdyk had to be careful there, Desharnais came out of the box and almost caught him".

Me and my buddy couldn't stop laughing, yeah, 5'6" Desharnais is going to do a lot of damage to 6'3" JvR

Hughson is a retard sometimes. He also said things like "we haven't noticed Leo Komarov much tonight" despite Komarov being one of the most noticeable players.

He really does belong doing PbP for the Canucks...

JVR isn't going to wow you with his speed at the best of times, but he definitely looked a half step behind yesterday.
