Also: the Isles are moving to Brooklyn. They're already leaving to go somewhere else. Why all the "move them to Canada" BS? Calm down, man. They're already leaving their home for the past 40+ years, and moving to a new city. It's ok. Everything is ok.
Because the NHL built the entire premise of the lockout on teams like the Islanders and Coyotes. We lost how many months of hockey because teams were saying their costs were too high? And then these guys go and circumvent the CBA so that they can pretend to be at the cap floor. So either the system wasn't broken before if teams could just skirt the cap floor by signing retirees to contracts and not paying them OR they fixed absolutely nothing and the whole lockout was a sham and a punch in the face of the fans who pay the bills for these guys.

No they didn't. Not at all.

Not even a little.

This lockout was about getting the 12-25 most profitable teams healthy. Everyone knew that it was only, at best, going to reduce the hemorrhaging of the bottom 5 clubs, not fix it.

Phoenix, the Islanders, Florida... these teams need way more than a new CBA to be solvent. The Islanders have started that process by moving to Metro NY. Phoenix... good god, who knows what's going to happen to them. The Jamieson thing seems to be on thin ice, at some point, that team is going to give up on staying in Phoenix.

Point is, everyone knew these teams would still be in tough after the new CBA. Bettman knew it, Fehr knew it, the media knew it, and for the most part, fans knew it.

In what world is the Islanders trading for a player who signed a 35+ contract and has publicly stated he won't be playing circumventing the CBA? How is that going against anything the NHL is trying to achieve?

This is going to be good.

Darcy Tucker, representing the Leafs on hockey day in Canada.

fitting considering the Leafs are still on the hook for his buy out.

You must work in finance as a spin doctor.

The CBA demands the NHL put forth were all about helping the bottom feeders and solidifying the middle class of NHL franchises.

While there can be no argument that a few franchises wouldn't become profitable as stand alone entities with this CBA, it definitely provided the league with the money and mechanisms to underwrite the losses.

The effect of any change in revenue split is simply, it gives all 30 owners more (reduces losses) and provides more revenue redistribution (underwrites losses). Add to this a reduction in allowable salary expenses by changing the salary cap ranges further provides additional opportunity to reduce losses, at the same time increasing franchise value.

While none of this hurts the top revenue producers, it provides an order of magnitude benefit to the bottom feeder franchises on both the balance sheet and most importantly capital value.

IMO the Islanders are not one of those franchises that need assistance due to growing a new market.

Hopefully with the move to Brooklyn this franchise will move up the NHL revenue ranking to at least the mid-point in a few years.

I'd pick up Petrecki though we don't need him with our 7 D + Boro and Gryba. Can't have too many capable D

I'd give Tyrell a chance to but I think he'll get claimed by a team with higher claim priority.

Montreal has had plenty of chances so I'd lean more towards the Leafs actually playing well. And there's #4. Reimer, though...Reimer is on another level tonight.

Did you realise that if Alfie and Michalek were on the same line it would spell 911 ?

Envious of the Leafs that have players that actually hit and don't just "rub" out the opponent like many of our guys :\

Yeah I know it's hard to say but like, we have Neil, Methot and Cowen for physicality. Greening is so soft for a big man and Smith is not consistent with his physical play.
