I'd rather have Lydman-Vatanen, but you are right, Allen has been very solid lately

Great shot and good thing that he was able to get on scoreboard right away on this second try in the big league. He has deserved the try in the AHL for sure.

Good hard passes for what I saw of the first peroid, good openings for offensive plays. Probably to become really good NHL D he needs to develop the defensive game, the skills and offensive game and skating and I think everything else is good enough, some of them really good, like he's shot has always been. Hope he can bulk up some muscle (even thought he isn't struggling because of lack of muscle) in the summer and develop he's defensive game in the future.

How come? Looked like a great shot that beat Bobrovski on the high glove side.

Very nice wrister for his first goal in the NHL. He also has a powerful slapshot but didn't see him use that yet. He has to get stronger in his own zone but in this game at least, he didn't look worse than almost any other defender.

great to see vatanen get on the score board. I felt he played a little safe to begin the game but seemed more confident after the goal. seems much improved since his last call up aswell. good call by the ducks!

Think that post was meant for the GDT when Steckel scored.

I know this won't be likely to happen but I'd love to see Cam and Sami in same PP. If Sami has the skill to anchor the blueline and Fowler trusts him to do that, so he's allowed to do his roaming thing, they'd be one of the most fearsome PP blueliners in league. And if something bad happens they are at least fast unlike Soyray..

After seeing the box score, I came rushing to HFboards for some early morning entertainment. I was hoping for a bit more from this thread. A bit anti-climactic.

Imagine if that post by Vatanen had gone in. Vatanen singlehandedly wins the game aftern given keerole over Fowler and Sbisa

Did Sami go after the match to the Blue Jackets dressing room in his morning gown to inform that he can sign autographs in a moment?

Naturally, just after drinking all of their recovery drinks and coffee. Single handedly.

This thread needs eenok. Should we be worried? Could he have suffered a heart attack after Keerole scored?

eenok is Vatanen and now he's too busy playing and practising in NHL so he doesn't have the time to post here.

Glad to see Sami score his first. I hope he does really well and makes it to the team from the camp next year.

Lydman is probably gone next year so he has the chance to win that position.

Lydman's role isn't open to Vatanen. That'd be Lindholm, or a UFA. The bottom-pairing RHD niche defender that should be worried about Vatanen is Lovejoy.

I don't think Vatanen is going to be a big scoring Dman. I think a strong year from him will look similar to Cam's where it is mostly assists (nothing wrong with that).

Thats just how he is in AHL, 8 goals and like 36 assists, I'd expect more of the same from him in the NHL.

Dmen do their assists with shots, look at how Erik Karlsson gets points all the time.. The mainpoint is to get hard quality shots thru, so they hard to catch without rebound. Assists will come on the rebounds and sometimes it goes in straight.

Just pointing it out, maybe you meant that already. Karlsson seems to do most of hes points on rebounds. Any D can put some kind of shots to the net, but not so many can make them hard and accurate and get it thru the screen.

His goal scoring was very low at the beginning of the year, but if u look his last 20 games in AHL his stats are 5+12. Usually more than quarter of his point are goals. I hope he can keep that rate in NHL too.

Outside NA:

FEL: 38+76
International junior games: 16+39
WJC-17, 18 and 20: 5+14
Finland's national team: 2+2
Combine: 61+131

Yeah and in the AHL he still gets 22,2% of points with goals on this current rate, and also some times they don't keep spreading equally, the percent lives in waves withs its high's and lows, so the percent could as well raise in future when more is played. Based on those earlier stats by you and the fact he has great shot, the percent isn't too likely to go lower in the future, more likely it will be something between 20-30% in the future too. The bigger guestion isn't the percent of what hes points in NHL will be, its how much of those points he can score in the league that has level like NHL. But no reason to be negative about it at this point when he has done so well in the AHL.

I agree your post. But if i can calculate, 20 % of his points are goals in AHL. 9 goals and 45 points total: 9/45=0,20=20 %

But if we speculate that Vatanen someday gets 40 points season i dont think 10+30 what Fowler did is that bad goal-assist ratio for Vatanen. I think that is pretty realistic ratio to him (25 % goals). Too bad Fowler hasn't keep up his goal scoring after rookie season(5+31).
