Good for Quinn... that pretty much means that Army or Sacco will finish out the season.

Good. It might force the team to look outside their organization for the next coach.

Perhaps Quinn will hire Sacco as an assistant coach.

Dater says Quinn will finish out the year with us. Guess we don't have to worry about a chance for a competent defense this season either.

I just hope there aren't anymore Lacroixs that they can give jobs to.

Why would anyone want to hire Sacco?

Yes! This is what I was hoping would happen. Sacco will get fired and now they can't just promote Quinn. They could go with Army but I doubt it.

I totally could see it being Army.

I mean, they already promoted Sacco and Granato, one was a terrible AHL coach, the other already failed to do anything with a literal superteam a few years before. It's not like they have some high bar for who gets the job. It seems to me that it's just whoever is next in line.

Army SUCKED at Providence. If that's any indication of his coaching abilities, we want to stay FAR FAR away.

I'm sad that Quinn is gone. He was the architect for the dominant 2009 BU team. He was essentially head coach at BU for the 5 or so really good years between 05-09 there. He was always seen as the heir apparent and this move is an obvious one to me (and most likely most BU fans too).

The best part of the Quinn hiring is that if Sacco is fired, we are one step closer to getting an outside coach. Army has proven he is a terrible coach. So it is either Chynoweth or somebody currently outside the organization.

Quinn wouldn't get this team where it needs to be anyways.

So, what if we promote Quinn now as interim and fire Sacco, no harm done right?

A team that would be tired of just sucking enough to 'just' miss the playoffs.

Seriously though, I can't even see an AHL team wanting to hire him. After he's done with the Avs, I don't think he coaches again.

Lol, it won't be Army.

This is the perfect situation to get rid of all of our coaches and bring in a guy that will bring in 'his guys' as assistants.

That's never been a requirement. I still think Roy will be the first call, but I'm scared what will happen now if he says no.

I'll be pretty surprised if that happens. The only thing I can see is Buffalo being an interesting place for him because his son plays for the organization though I think it's safe to say that he probably won't be an NHLer.

So the guy the Avs have been grooming to succeed Sacco since 2009 is now gone. Way to drag your feet there once again, Avalanche. For the second time this season indecision on the part of the front office leads to failure. Not saying Quinn would've taken the job for sure, but I doubt he'd have turned it down.

I don't trust they will look outside the organization. Not so long as Lacroix is in charge.

That means the next head coach will be one of these guys:

Jacques Martin
Rick Tocchet
Tony Granato
Patrick Roy
Steve Konowalchuk
Adam Deadmarsh
Eric Lacroix
Tim Army

I'm guessing they'll try again for Roy, and failing that, will settle for Army.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there...you're really on a great roll of trashing this organization but just because someone hires someone and gives them certain positions, it doesn't mean they are necessarily being groomed to replace the guy at the top. With that thinking, every employee that McDonalds hires to take care of the fries is being 'groomed' to take over as the general manager someday? Ridiculous.

I've never once even entertained the thought that David Quinn would become the head coach of the Avalanche. It's completely the wrong timing for starters.

It certainly wasn't impossible but the guy took a college position when the head coach of his current team is sitting dead last in the Western Conference, 29th overall. What does THAT tell you about what's upcoming after this season ends?

If it's not Roy, it will likely be Jacques Martin. You can stick the fork in Sacco and Army, they're done too.

I don't think it's ridiculous to believe an organization that only considers "in-hires" for key positions would be grooming a guy, especially a guy with a resume as impressive as Quinn's, to be a future head coach. You're gonna tell me he wouldn't have been the most likely candidate once Sacco was fired had he stayed!?

Let's hope it's the latter but as of right now I'm cautiously pessimistic as to who the next "coach" is and whether or not they actually have some experience.
