Picked Subban but I don't think it's fair to compare the two since they are different types of players.

McDonagh because he's better defensively.

McDonagh is gonna get blown out, even though it should be the other way. Half the people voting probably have never watched him play, because he only played half of last year.

Based off of overall NHL accomplishments and current calibre, McDonagh.

Subban is something special, though, as is McDonagh, but Subban has that game-changing ability that McD does not. PK could easily become a 60-70 point defenseman that is above average defensively, while McDonagh will probably be a 35-40 point elite shutdown defensive.

McDonagh AINEC. A bit behind offensively, but miles ahead defensively.

McDonagh often play more than 25 minute by game, is +12 has 13 points, 22 year's old.

Subban play lest than Diaz at the moment, and he his also 22 year's old.

I want McDonagh back, retake Gomez.

It happened twice this season. Subban 23:33 is 1st on the Habs. Diaz barely plays 19 minutes a game. Don't know what point you were trying to bring but I fail to get it.

Subban last 30 games last year + playoff performance in his career so far > what McDonagh showed so far. Yep he has been rock solid this season, 25 games doesn't erased Subban 120+ games in the big stage.

Subban is way better defensively and on the PK than some of the Rangers fans are trying to say. Aside Gorges, he has been the best dman defensively on our team. As he was last year too. He is prone to make stupid mistake from time to time and have just bad game but when he is focus and he is bull down low and seperate the forward from the puck easier than 99% of the dman in the league.

My 2 cents.

Sad when you consider montreal should've had both and with that would've had two top pairing d-man, a top 6 d(weber) and Pacioretty with the first 4 picks of the 2007 draft.

So apparently his 45 games last season are irrelevant? And never in his career has Subban played as good as McDonagh is right now. Okay, so he's still not as good as McDonagh defensively, and barely better defensively. The thing is, McDonagh is +12, while playing PK, and PP. Subban is +3, while playing both as well.

And Subban makes mistakes, like anyone you say. McDonagh doesn't. Sure, he makes mistakes, but they are extremely rare. And saying that Subban is better than 99% of d-men at seperating the puck from the forward is saying he's the second best in the league

I'm a habs fan and I take McDonagh...

When we gave him away free I really thought he would bust out since he didn't seem to take his hockey seriously... how wrong was I !

Subban is annoying the hell out of me, always taking terrible penalties but he is solid defensively.

Right now?

I'd probably take McDonagh. He impresses the hell out of me, and seems like the more solid, stable presence at the moment, and I like what he brings offensively all things considered. Speaking from a team need standpoint, the Leafs really could use someone who knows what they're doing in the defensive zone.

Down the line though, as Zenith said, I think Subban could be the more dynamic, game changing defenseman that any team would be lucky to have. That's the type of player I'd value over someone like McDonagh, but again, right now Subban isn't there yet.

McD is miles ahead of Subban defensively. If you want an offensive dman, then Subban probably, although McD is having a better offensive season so far.

This poll is ridiculous. Again with the what have you done for me lately mentality thats far too common here. When Mcdonagh does anything worth while in the playoffs like PK (who has been nothing less than a shutdown dman in the playoffs last 2 years) come talk to me.

Subban has the dreaded HF reputation now. Just like Kessel will always remain a lazy offense only player.

"miles ahead defensively"

That Subban is not at the level I was seeing him this year from what I saw last year.

I was thinking that Subban will be the most used defencemen every night this season, and yet Diaz play a lot more of minute than him the last 2 games.

Some people need to watch Subban play.
He's solid defensively now.
