I was surprised when they did not offer a contract to Michel Ouellet mainly because of the vet factor: the AHL sure is a development league but I want our young guns to grow in a winning environment. And winning is tough without solid vets to show the way.
=> A solid and necessary move imo. I still dislike our NHL d squad but, with Commodore onboard, our AHL d squad seems to be well balanced.
As an aside, it's good to see that Marc Bergevin fixes his mistakes. He erred in not signing a veteran D, ok, **** happens. But he is fixing it 15 games into the season, that is some good responsiveness.

He was released due to a lack of performance not because of the vet rule. Teams can dress up to 5 veterans (320+ pro games) in a game and Hamilton only had 2 (Blunden and Stortini) at that time. Even with Boyce and Commodore they still have room for another veteran player.
