Hawks PK - first impressions

Our PK didn't look bad but then again LA didn't look very good at any time in the game. The blatant fault I observed was losing face-offs. Kruger can't be taking draws in our end. Again, specialty teams obviously will be a key this season. Comments?

Not a fan of the passive diamond they looked like they were using.

It seems like the same setup, but I think team defense has improved overall, which I think in turn helps the PK. While there's obv still tons of room for improvement, Leddy, Oduya, Hammer, and Keith all looked a bit more steady in their own end.

Did a better job of getting in the shooting lanes, but that could just be because of awful Kings PP

Thank the Lord that the Kings are simply dreadful on the power play.

Hawks PK

I know Pho's PP is brutal, but our PK has been completely solid the past 2 games. Hoping they can keep it up.

Not a fan of the passive diamond/box at all, but I guess you can't really argue with results. Still, we'll see what happens when the Hawks face some good powerplays.

Yep, I thought they were great against LA and allowed none last night. Great job by Q and his staff early on, especially the special teams.

I liked the PK too, but the teams we played aren't good PP Teams. Much like Hossa is on pace for 96 goals this year

/\ Yes... not sure if opps PP was just bad ...or that we prevented them to set up. One thing certain in my mind, we can't keep losing key face offs on the PK.

I agree. Frolik and Kruger look great on the PK. I believe the bottom 6 on the PK instead our core guys like Sharp. I really don't think Sharp belongs(never did) on the PK. Big test on Tues because STL scored 4 PP against Detroit.

Lots of blocked shots happening right now, I think that will be a major key moving forward. Will players continue to do it?

Marcus Kruger = 10:54 SH TOI (2:43 Avg per game)
Michael Frolik = 10:41 SH TOI (2:40 Avg per game)

Hawks 3rd ranked PK in NHL right now

Kruger/Frolik has supplanted Toews unit as #1 PK unit on Hawks (Toews has just 4 Min of SH icetime)

Depth players playing depth roles. What a novel concept.

This begs the question...what has gotten into Q this year? Has he magically morphed into a reasonable coach?

From his consistency in lines to improved special teams play he may just have (although it is still too early to say definitively).

Scotty must have schooled him during the lockout.

Winning cures all ails. Kruger has made major strides and Frolik is playoff Frolik.
