Canadiens vs. Leafs (In-Depth Comparison)

Stolen from the Blues vs. Bruins comparison.

Pick one for each section. Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs. Lineups are for each team at full strength, minus people who will miss the whole season. PK Subban is included for Montreal, because he shouldn't miss the whole year.

Let me know if I made any mistakes with the line-ups.

Montreal Canadiens

F1: Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
F2: Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gionta
F3: Bourque-Eller-Moen
F4: Prust-White-Armstrong

D1: Subban-Gorges
D2: Markov-Emelin
D3: Kaberle-Boullion/Diaz

G1: Price
G2: Budaj

Toronto Maple Leafs

F1: Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
F2: Kulemin-Grabovski-Macarthur
F3: Van-Riemsdyk-Kadri-Komarov
F4: Orr-McClement-Brown

D1: Phaneuf-Gunnarsson
D2: Franson-Gardiner
D3: Komisarek-Liles

G1: Reimer
G2: Scrivens

Those are some interesting line combos for Toronto, you should pass them along to Carlyle.

Not a single line or pairing is correct

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin
Van Riemsdyk-Kadri-Komarov
Orr-McClement-Brown

Phaneuf-Kostka (ugh why)
Liles-Franson/Holzer
Gunnarsson-Komisarek/Fraser

Scrivens
Reimer

That's for the first two games of the season. MacArthur and Kulemin tend to swap wings, but I don't think that's relevant.

Anyway, I take Leafs first line, Habs second, Habs third, Leafs fourth.

Habs first pairing, Habs second, Leafs third.

Habs take goaltending.

All in all, I guess Montreal wins it for me. Mind you, I'm not sure how correct the Habs lineup is here. I know the first pairing is wrong because, y'know, Subban hasn't played. But I take the first if Markov is there anyway, so I don't think that matters.

- D is a little tricky because we've already had 8 different defensemen play on the team and one of our roster guys (Gardiner) hasn't played. For the purpose of this thread I'll use last year's most common pairings (minus Schenn). I don't even think Randy Carlyle knows how he'd set this up. I should note that Kostka has played with Phaneuf on the top pairing and has been excellent, but it's 2 games so for the purpose of this thread it doesn't make much sense to include him (or Fraser, or Holzer). The Leafs defense is pretty much impossible to judge at this point in this context because it has changed so much in 2 games and there are so many new faces (albeit faces that looked good).

And for what it's worth if I had to make the lineup I'd just swap Komisarek and Kostka or Holzer.

G1: Scrivens
G2: Reimer

Voted even though the line-ups are wrong.

The only option I have a differing opinion on is I voted for Montreal's 3rd line over Toronto's

Voted w/ Leafs lineup like posted by the people in this thread:

Toronto F1 - Kessel/Lupul great combo
Montreal F2 - Looks like a 1st line almost
Toronto F3 - JVR is a top-6 player, and Kadri proving he might be there now too
Montreal F4 - love all three of the MTL players games

Montreal D1 - I thought this one was close, but I'll give edge to MTL
Toronto D2 - Again close, but I like the Leafs duo better
Toronto D3 - Kaberle is a mess now, Leafs have better depth

Montreal G1 - Derp
Toronto G2 - Scrivens has potential to be starter, Budaj is WYSIWYG

The bolded lines shouldn't be that debatable IMO
