If this is true then I am surprised by the signing.
I thought SJ had much better depth. Gomez wouldn't make the roster for any other contender.
Oh well.
As a 3rd or 4th line C? Sure he would. And the Sharks have one of the better top 6s in the league and a decent 4th line, it's the 3rd that's in shambles. Plus they are REALLY slow overall, so Gomez would help with that.

I thought that was Gomez' primary problem in Mont (his being soft and slow). I would take Stoll Fraser Lewis Nolan over him and that's just the Kings.
I don't think that Gomez would make the roster on any other contender but that's debatable I guess. I truly thought that you guys had solid depth but if you did then I guess you wouldn't have signed Gomez.
If you have one of the better top 9's in the league then how is the third line in a shambles? I mean I don't think that Gomez is the worst signing ever or that the Sharks are a bad team, I just thought that you guys had better options all around than to sign him.
I believe he meant to say better top 6's, which is true. I believe Handzus hled the bottom 6 in terms of points past year, if that gives you some idea of our depth forwards. I think Gomez would be a good addition.

He's actually a very fast skater, he was never slow. And I'd take Gomez over all those players on the Sharks since Gomez fits what the Sharks need more than those 4.

My bad, I meant top 6s. The Sharks had great offensive depth a couple of years ago, but the Setoguchi-Burns trade and swapping Wellwood for a terrible Handzus cut into that a bit. If Burns comes back soon than their D will be as good and as deep as it's been in a long time, but the offense needs some tweaking.

Fair enough. I guess it must have been Seto-Burns deal that cut into the depth that I was thinking of. I agree that you guys have a solid top 6 and that with Burns you guys have a good D too.
I am not going to get the Gomez signing but I have been wrong about these things before and will probably be again. Not much of a gamble but one that I just don't get if it turns out to be true.
Honestly, this deal is low risk/high reward (relatively)
A 3rd line of Galiardi-Gomez-Wingels will be MUCH better than what we had last year with Handzus centering the that line, so if he signs for the rumored 700k/1yr, I'm gonna be pretty happy. Hell, as long as it's less than 1M a year, then I'd take it. If it's over 1.5M, then I'd have a problem.
makes sense that he is in Calgary tonight, doesn't make sense that it is for SJ and not Calgary. The team with no centres gets to face off against the player that was essentially available for free. Gomez might not be much help to most teams, but certainly would have improved the Flames. Hope he lights them up.

Flames need high end centers. The bottom 6 is not a problem for Calgary. Horak and Backlund will both be better than Gomez this year.
