throwing him away? you mean constantly giving him chances the last two years? giving him baby-soft matchups? powerplay? offensive zone starts? should we have bribed the opposing goalie to let one in pretty please with sugar on top?

throwing him away? you mean besides paying out the remainder of his salary or for not trying to trade him away - oh wait we did that. who want's a 15 point guy for 7 and a half mil a year, raise your hand!

anyone?

educate yourself a bit more before posting. let your fingers act as a stupid filter.

25 points in 48 (now 46) games for a 700K player. Yes please!

If you think that carrying the puck in the offensive zone is an awesome skill, than you've got a heck of a player!

Hope things work out for him. Gomez has always been one of my favourite players.

signing a great locker room guy in his early 30's who scored 60 points only a couple seasons ago and has something to prove for next to nothing ... man, Doug Wilson is an IDIOT!

Is he a great locker room guy? I never liked him in the locker room on the Rangers. He never seemed to take anything seriously. I remember watching him in one interview even make fun of how crappy he was playing. I honestly think that's why torts had him shipped out the second he got here.

It's good to have a sense of humor and all, but being light about playing like garbage is not what i want to see in a so-called leader.

Regardless, I'm not in the locker room, but from his years on the Rangers, I never took him as a great guy to have in the locker room. Not a bad person, but certainly no leader.

You make it sound like you were in the locker room with the team.

ANY team would love to pay only $700K for a player to put up 25 pts in a season. And it's not like the contract is very long. It's for 1 freakin year.

Maybe "great" was an overstatement. Not-a-cancer then.

I specifically said i'm not in the locker room with him, like everyone here, but judging from an outside point of view, like everyone else, he never seemed like a great locker room guy to me.

I want my leaders to be tenacious with a passion about winning. Gomez never once showed that as a ranger. Maybe he did in the locker room, but from where i was standing, he never did, everything was always a joke to him, including his crappy play.

At the end of the day, i don't know, but my educated guess, would be that he's not a cancer, but certainly no boost, especially to a team that needs leaders. I think he'll fit in on the sharks because they have a strong veteran presence and he will be supplemental.

Signing Gomez is a no risk move. Unfortunately Gomez has shied away from high-traffic areas lately. He doesn't go into the corners and doesn't get to the net. There's no courage in his game anymore.

Pacioretty said it himself that Gomez helped him grow as a player. And I'm not sure why you're so hard on him considering he helped eventually get the Rangers a top pairing defenseman.

I think he'll do well there. Mid-offensive 3rd line center is all they really need from him.

Montreal is paying millions of dollars for Gomez to play in the beautiful climate of San Jose.

Gomez is lucky!
