lol at "a blatant dive"

Dude fell down and got right back up, didn't embellish or anything at all..it honestly was 2 minutes for being Steve Ott.

I just saw i quickly but didn't he dive after the puck? Like throwing himself forward to get to the puck before the defensemen took it away?

I'd need to see another replay of it, but initially to me it didn't look like a dive..at least not a blatant one you see where a guy falls down lays there throwing his hands up etc. You know, it is possible to just lose your footing sometimes etc..

It looked like he fell to me. I think it was a bad call.

Can't stand Ott, but that's the way I saw it too. What are the odds a goalie gets a diving minor this season though?

This has turned into a diving discussion and will be merged with the diving thread.

Ott's penalty was karma for the many times he's taken a dive in the past and the many times in the future that he will.

Pathetic. I'm ashamed to be a Capitals fan, Ovechkin is clearly using a gravity hack of some sort.
I think we need more definitive proof than two crappy out of focus photos.

He got a penalty. It has to be pretty obvious if he got a penalty.

just because shief has the balance of a 3 wheeled car doesn't mean he dives.

I defend Canadian hockey players in every and all aspects whenever possible, sometimes to the extent it gets me in trouble.

He was diving in that tourney. I wasn't a fan of it.

As a Jets fan who watched sheif when he was on the ice, and the only time I remember him diving is when he got crossed in front of the bench.

Did you really think he dove when he drew that penalty?

The poor guy cant stay up. He goes down way too easily.

I thought this thread wasn't allowed because last year every fan base would call out the others but wouldn't acknowledge the times their own team did & this thread just turned into a cesspool of back & forth bickering?

Cause things are really gonna change on here when it comes to that.

I'm glad the league is getting tougher on diving and/or embellishment, but in so doing they're bound to make their share of wrong calls. Oftentimes a dive can be fairly subjective as it isn't always "I-just-got-shot" obvious. And sometimes what we see on TV isn't as clear as what perhaps the ref picks up on out on the ice. For example: Ott. That didn't appear to be a dive at all, but perhaps there was a "tell" that the ref saw and knew. Embellishment can be a trickier tail to catch as you really want to avoid penalizing a guy for what may look like melodrama but is actually sincerity. However, there's plenty of blatant acting going on, much of it in a crease somewhere, so here's hoping they're not too shy about hurting anyone's feelings.

At any rate, even with the increased scrutiny and (hopefully) whistles, I still think most of the controversy around these calls will be the ones they don't make.

Yes, and that was where he solidified himself as a diver in my mind

I think anyone called for diving should have to go to center ice and apologize to the crowd.

I just watched the replay on gamecenter. It was a pretty obvious dive.

Certainly Salo had a hand on his shoulder, but unless Salo turned into the Hulk over the offseason, Ovechkin shouldn't have gone down like he did

Chara just got called for holding on Wheeler, bad call by the refs, there was no hold at all, Wheeler went down completely by himself. 4 on 3 in OT.
