I'd need to see another replay of it, but initially to me it didn't look like a dive..at least not a blatant one you see where a guy falls down lays there throwing his hands up etc. You know, it is possible to just lose your footing sometimes etc..
I thought this thread wasn't allowed because last year every fan base would call out the others but wouldn't acknowledge the times their own team did & this thread just turned into a cesspool of back & forth bickering?
Cause things are really gonna change on here when it comes to that.
I'm glad the league is getting tougher on diving and/or embellishment, but in so doing they're bound to make their share of wrong calls. Oftentimes a dive can be fairly subjective as it isn't always "I-just-got-shot" obvious. And sometimes what we see on TV isn't as clear as what perhaps the ref picks up on out on the ice. For example: Ott. That didn't appear to be a dive at all, but perhaps there was a "tell" that the ref saw and knew. Embellishment can be a trickier tail to catch as you really want to avoid penalizing a guy for what may look like melodrama but is actually sincerity. However, there's plenty of blatant acting going on, much of it in a crease somewhere, so here's hoping they're not too shy about hurting anyone's feelings.
At any rate, even with the increased scrutiny and (hopefully) whistles, I still think most of the controversy around these calls will be the ones they don't make.
