Ahhh my friend at FSSW warned me about this a couple hours ago. Didn't think it was true. Not a big fan.

I dont even..... what?!?

Could Cole be Morrow's replacement?

Maybe they figure Cole can be a better bottom six option over Ryder?

I'm struggling to find any positives in this deal. I don't think their is any.......

Okay I'm back on the fire Niewendyk bandwagon. That's simply a terrible trade that should get Joe fired.

So rumor is THEY also get a pick? AND my buddy is saying it was possibly a 2nd. I'm going to jump off a cliff if this is true.

Ehhh let's see what Cole looks like before we say things like this.

I mean, we traded a guy who scored 35 goals last season and is signed for 1 year for a guy who scored 35 goals last season and is signed for 3 more years.

Obviously Ryder looks to be the better player, but if Cole can be a 25-30 goal scorer for us, this is a huge win.

It's really not a win if you think R. Smith, Fraser, Chiasson, or Brett Ritchie are ready next year. It's also a gamble on the health of an even older guy and quite frankly Ryder was doing loads of good for the two kids playing with him. A 2nd isn't enough to offset that.

If we got a 2nd round pick out of it I wont be AS upset. Realistically that's what I expected in return for Ryder based on recent trades.

Or maybe Morrow's on his way out soon as well. If these kids do end up pushing out Cole, we can trade him for a pick, I'm sure Carolina would take him back. Or we could simply use an amnesty buyout.

Low risk, high reward trade. I don't mind this at all.

Whitney - Benn - Eriksson/Cole
Fraser - Eakin/Roy - Eriksson/Cole
Vincour - Eakin/Chiasson - R. Smith
4th line

If Chiasson really is being moved to center and not just taking faceoffs, I could see something like that happening. He steps in as our 3rd line center if we don't re-sign Roy, or stays down in the AHL to make the transition that much easier if he sticks around. Roy stays longterm, Chiasson stays on the wing and takes Whitney's place as soon as he's gone.

R. Smith and Fraser are both on here. Don't see Ritchie making the NHL, and Chiasson's been impressive, but I don't think more AHL time will hurt him, nor that he will look good enough to force his way onto the team.

Your Morrow theory is interesting but I'm doubtful. There's nothing to remotely indicate Morrow is on the outs and besides, even if that's true, Whitney is still here, Eriksson is here, why do you need Erik ****ing Cole?

Physicality. Trade Morrow and we have no physical wingers at all. I think we'd all agree that he's an upgrade over Morrow, and add whatever pick we get to any futures we can snag for Morrow and I'd like that series of trades.

soooo....roussel back in tonight?

My initial reaction is WTF? I don't like the idea of trading someone who is tied for the lead in points and who we know meshes with the team and his line for a guy who has similar numbers and might work out here. Seems better to go with the guy we know is producing for us.

I did feel a little better when I realized (from the .gif in the other thread) that we got the "high five the ref" guy, I've laughed at that clip many a time.

I hope Joe knows what he's doing.

Further to @TSNBobMcKenzie, the Ryder-Cole trade still awaiting trade call. The Habs also get a draft pick in the deal. Cole waived NTC

Unbelievable. Not only do we get the older, worse player, who makes more money and is signed for two more years, we actually gave up a 3rd round pick as well. WTF?

My vocabulary is inadequate to describe my dumbfoundedness of this and also my visceral hate. Jesus Christ Niewendyk, what the hell?

Ahh the trades that could've been. Ryder for an even older winger with more years on his deal. And we send a pick. There's no chance in hell this is the best deal that could have been made but a specific one Nieuwendyk wanted to for some reason.
