Curious to what Nucks fans want for Ballard? He isn't offensively gifted, but we need him for a defensive role and decent skating.

Avs have ton of depth defensemen, so one of them would probably go back.

Also Canucks would have to keep 1.4 to 1.6 million of his salary as well.

He did play well last night. Its actually the best I have seen him in a Canucks uniform.
If his play keeps up, we will want something of honest value for him after the offseason.

We keep him as our 5th for now.

How about....NO. I would actually really like Ballard on the Avs, but if ROR becomes involved, regardless of any realistic + its a huge no. No deal for ROR would be built around Ballard/Tanev

If and when ROR returns I think something around Olver would be fair.

Ballard's actually a good offensive puck-rushing d-man (averaged over 30 points per season prior to being traded to Vancouver). His role has been largely limited on the Canucks as he's behind Hamhuis and Edler on the left side. Does EJ play on the right side? If so, I think a Ballard-EJ pairing would be great for the Avs. For this season I think we'll be fine with keeping Ballard, as we're not in any cap trouble, unless a top 6 forward comes back but in the off season, I can see him being auctioned off to the highest bidder.

So short answer, top six forward now or 1st/2nd rounder in the summer.

No.

Canucks have no reason to get rid of Ballard this season, and he has enough value that the Canucks can trade him without keeping salary in the offseason.

Also, taking on 1.4M of his salary removes the entire reason for trading Ballard.

I think you're overstating his value. There's no team in the league that would pay a 1st rounder for him, especially after a few dissapointing seasons in Vancouver. Also, 30 points is hardly indicative of being very talented offensively (44 defenseman had 30 points last year).

He had 39 points in his rookie year, so if/when he gets back on track he should be in the 30-40 point range. Like someone mentioned above his biggest problem is that he's a LD who doesn't play well on the right side, and has Edler and Hamhuis ahead of him in Vancouver. That combined with injuries got him off to a rocky start in Vancouver.

He would more than likely be pretty solid in Colorado, and I'm sure both GM's know it. Doesn't mean he belongs being mentioned anywhere near O'Reilly, but someone like Downie could be a good swap.

I said he was good offensively, not very talented. If 44 d-men were ahead of him in points, that would put him right in #2/3 dman territory, which is where Ballard has typically slotted in as for most of his career. It would certainly be an upgrade over some of Colorado's current defensemen. As for value, I'm not expecting a 1st round pick but if some teams needed help on their blueline, I could certainly see a team paying atleast a 2nd rounder.

Would something work around Ballard and McGinn? I know Avs love McGinn but with Duchene, Landeskog, Stastny, Parenteau, Downie, Hejduk, Jones and ROR he seems the most logical one that would work. Ideally Hejduk would be better but he retires an Av.

Not sure if serious. The game I was watching showed him throwing blind passes right down the middle to the Ducks. This guy is worth nothing.

as brutal a fit he is on the canucks, he's still an nhl calibre defenseman that prevents scrubs like alberts and barker from seeing regular ice time
