I still don't see him being traded at all, I think the Avs have learned their lesson and know how valuable he is to the team. This can only be a positive for him re-signing as he isn't half a world away and will not want to sit at home once he is healed.

What was the lesson the Avs learned from this?

I meant learned their lesson from trading valuable assets in the past because of their contract demands. No doubt there will be some bad blood if/when he re-signs, but that will dissipate once he is back on the ice and producing for them. I think after his next contract is up negotiations will be a lot easier as both sides will be able to judge his worth with much more accuracy.. or he could always be traded at that point (though I hope not).

I bet the Avs would welcome an offer sheet, unless it was a crazy salary. They could justify it since they didn't dish out the contract.

I thought I read that offer sheets are slightly different now...
When you match, an additional year can be worked into the agreement...

I agree, assuming of course that it is not a crazy offer sheet.

If it is we let him walk and reap the first round picks. Hopefully it's a team destined for bottom 5's for the next four years.

This is precisely why TOR will not give ROR an offer sheet. This is the post Burke era. They aren't throwing first rounders out the door anymore.

So, Edmonton?

I don't think he'll be going back to Russia at this point. He'll most likely play for us or get traded.

This is definitely a much simpler situation now in that ROR is no longer earning and no longer playing - there's only so long that he's going to want to hold out without playing competitive hockey and without bringing home a paycheck. I suppose he can always go overseas again in the summer but that would be stupid.

I'm positive he won't go back to Russia. The Avs called his bluff and there is just too much risk of injury to continue in the KHL while the NHL is back for at least 8 years. I hope he signs a deal here soon and the two parties work on getting the relationship repaired.

Methinks the NHL needs to banish Don Meehan hahah! He's got guys like Doughty/Subban/O'Reilly, etc. Brainwashed. I don't see why he has to hold out so he can make more than 99.99% of people instead of just 99%.

I want the Leafs to offer sheet RoR, I expect them to be near the bottom of the league and I want some picks.
