Kings have the only A game I think the Blues' A game literally cannot beat. Unless they catch Anaheim they're going to be in the 4-5 matchup and that's doom for the Blues if they end up there too.
I think Anaheim will fall back. LA will have something to say about who wins that division.

No doubt. Though I think that's the case for every team in the west outside of a healthy Chicago. The comparison between the Blues and Kings is just more pronounced because stylistically they are similar teams and it's easier for us to analyze how the Kings are just on another level. Because the Kings play the way Hitchcock wants the Blues to play. I can only imagine the flashbacks the coaching staff got as they pre-scouted the Kings last night in the press box.
And it does seem like Anaheim will be tough to catch. They had a great start despite having a tough road schedule to open the year so their schedule breaks easier down the stretch and they only have two head to head games left against the Kings.
A hockeybuzz blogger recently broke down score-adjusted Fenwick with results showing that Anaheim was the one upper-tier team that was playing at an unsustainable clip based on metrics.
But they had a very tough schedule to open the season and that isn't taken into account. Both the Kings and Ducks spend much of March at home.
So yes, if the Blues were to figure their **** out, a Kings/Blues 4-5 matchup is very realistic. Which would be over in 4.
That is a bummer for him, I think he was most def going to be moved near the deadline. Hopefully he can get it better for the offseason and earn a decent contract.
Anyone notice another NHL team besides the Blues falling off a cliff in the Eastern Conference the Devils? Since legend goalie Martin Brodeur went on IR with back issues, backup and just about as old Hedberg, has been posting Elliott like stats. I wonder out loud if Lou would be interested in Elliott
Bloody hell... Carl Söderberg is going to be joining the Bruins!
Interesting. I was looking at eliteprospects.com the other week just to see who was leading all the European leagues in scoring and noticed he was close to the top in SEL scoring. Odd timing though and the Bruins are stacked up front.

Finished up leading the SEL. He'll join after the Swedish playoffs. Great position for the Bruins to add him to their forward group, knowing they don't need to expect anything.
Hannu Toivonen
2012-13 Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL)
11 Games, 2-7-0, 3.93 GAA, .888 Save Percentage
Go figure. Once upon a time, I thought he'd be a perennial All-Star.
Uggggh... Toivonen reminds me of other recent failed Blues Goalies ( way too many to mention ) Jim "The Net Detective" Carey, Jason Bacashihua, Marek Schwarz ... Just to name a few...
Getzlaf signs an 8 year extension. I wonder if this will have an impact on Perry.
8.25 million a season. I like Getzlaf but that's about a million or so a season to much he didn't perform last season. An 8.25 million player needs to put up over a ppg every season.

Its a million too much for the first half of the contract. The salary cap will start rising again and this will start to look economical by the time its expiring. But that's not a contract that Armstrong would have given him.

Contracts like that make me think the Blues will never be in the market for a true #1 center. It seems the only way we will get one is if we get lucky and draft one.
Wow, that's a huge contract. He's a great player, but that's a steep hit for a long time. You're really banking on him being a great player for at least 6 of those years to even start to get your money's worth.

Your probably right. The Blues best chances were with the #1, #4, and #9. We took defensemen with the first two, and traded back from the other.
Those were our top three picks from the rebuilding years, and we only have Pietrangelo left. #9 got us Halak (via Eller), and EJ (plus other stuff) got us Stewart and Shattenkirk. I don't have really have a problem value-wise for either trade, but that isn't really a lot of top-teir talent.

Out of those years 06 is really the only year we had a chance to draft a true top flight #1 center. Couture is debateable with the trade down for Eller.
