Nick Petrecki 1 Year deal signed

Cap Geek has it
http://www.capgeek.com/player/166
107K in AHL
or
715K in NHL

Been waiting for him to sign... Want to see him make the NHL as a nasty bottom pair D.

I think the pricetag will help him get into the lineup sooner rather than later this season. Great deal for both sides. I think he's gonna be one of those players who's just so much better at the NHL level than AHL.

I posted this in the Worcester thread...

This puts Worcester at 8 deep on the blueline with NHL / two way contracts.
I really expected him to be moved as he's fallen pretty far down the depth chart.

He'd have to be considering how wildly inconsistent he's been the last couple of seasons in Worcester. Way more poor games than good (or even "average")

Nine...listed in the order they are on capgeek:
Tennyson (who I expect to spending a lot of time flying between coasts this season)
Acolatse
Doherty
Abeltshauser
Demelo
Petrecki
Pelech (who will see time at forward too)
Davison
Comrie

EDIT: just to complete the list, here are the defensemen on AHL contracts:
Kyle Bigos
Collin Bowman (likely for SF)
Steve Tarasuk (likely for SF)

Had a nice rebound season under Larry Robinsons guidance... People give up on youth so fast.

In hockey your a bust at 21... In mlb most players don't become full time till 23-25

I thought Pelech was moved to F for good..so if he isn't, then yes, it's 9 + one on an AHL deal that looks to be way too good for the ECHL.

Maybe the org (or more likely just me) is hoping someone gets plucked off of waivers at the beginning of the season (Davison, Pelech, Petrecki all have to clear right?)

Yep, all three need to clear.

He really didn't.

I never said he was a bust, I said he's fallen pretty far down the depth chart in Worcester and considering he's now 24 that's not really a good thing.

Sure he did from everything I read... He became a physically dominant stay at home D last year and was used in all key defensive situations.

Just turned 24, so he'll have to make the jump soon but if he does and plays that nasty stay at home game, people should not complain cause it took him to 24 to beak in and not 22

Where did you read this? Listen to 210, he's seen Petrecki play more than anyone here.

I've been watching Petrecki play for several years and I can tell you I saw him be that physically dominant (effective) stay at home d-man in less then 1/2 (and I'm probably being pretty generous) of his games last year.

I don't really care when he makes the jump to the NHL, if the org continues to sign him to 1 year deals and he doesn't get there til 26/27 it makes no difference to me.
He's going to have a hard time earning his way onto the SJ roster considering the depth in front of him.

He virtually never plays on the PK nor is he usually on the ice in the last minute of a game.

I still consider him a project player, my concern is where is he gonna play as it looks like he's not even top 6 material at the AHL level at this point.

I'm curious as to how long he'll keep getting contracts from the Sharks given what i'd call his lack of or really slow development.

I think he'll keep getting deals until he is an UFA...it's tough to give up on a first rounder when there is still hope (and despite every negative thing I've said, there most certainly still is) and you have him under control contractually.

Every time he starts to put something togther, he gets hurt and really regresses. I'm not sure if I'd even put him as 6th on Worcester D

When he does have a good game, does he look like a genuine NHL'er?

Yes. During those (rare) times he puts it all together he looks very good and could be a bottom pairing shut down d-man.

I think everyone is really pulling for him and hoping that at some point really soon it's just going to "click" for him and he'll put it all together on a very regular basis.

Heck yeah...he's had two-three week stretches where he looked like he'd finally gotten it all together. And then like Speeds says, he'd get hurt or have a bad few shifts and then it was all over.

Ok, I have to ask. Are the problems with his development between his ears so to speak or is there some skill/physical problem he has as a player.

In my opinion, it's all in his head.

That kind of sucks, that's the kiss of death for any Sharks Prospect these days for the most part. Especially on defense! All / Most the players we draft at the high end have this in spades if you read the scouting reports.
