Cribbs does nothing but return kicks. He's not a real WR. He'd replace Eldeman for punt and kick off returns.

My bad, the link I posted was to the wrong article. I saw on NESN mobile that it looked like Welker was all but gone and that Talib was going to the Colts.

I'd rather trade for a legit WR and put Hernandez in the slot but this is coming from someone who hates Wes Welker. Edelman going would just be a bonus in my eyes.

the bogus rumor was Welker to Indianapolis;

No more Chung in the secondary, he's gone to Philadelphia.

Keep seeing mock drafts where the Pats draft corners in the 1st round. I don't see that. If prior history is any indication, the Patriots don't develop the players they draft in the secondary all that well. I think they need to fill that hole on the open market, starting with bringing back Talib on terms they feel comfortable with. If they can't, there's plenty of other options.

I wonder how much Goldson will be asking for. It would be nice to have a hard hitting safety in the back again, ala Rodney Harrison. I would make a push for Goldson and Talib with a backup corner plan of maybe someone like Jason Smith (or if they have the money why not both?).

I'm all for signing Josh Cribbs as well. Great returner and I could see him turning into a speedy deep threat they could use on occasion.

We have been linked to Josh Cribbs all day

It seems as if Welker could be a goner too

Yes I am aware of that.

Cribbs would primarily be a return threat. He isn't much of a receiver

I don't think Welker is going anywhere. But I do think the Pats need to stop low balling him. Just pay him the money. He's earned it.

I think low-balling is a relative term. If he had a big money offer, wouldn't he have signed elsewhere already. Maybe what he wants is more than the market wants to give him?

The Pats have a history of this type of negotiation. They low balled Curtis Martin to the point where he no longer even considered coming back.

Adam Schefter was on ESPN yesterday and said that the reports about Welker returning to NE were coming from his people and not the Pats, which indicated to Schefter that there really isn't a market out there for Wes. He's been extremely productive, but is also 32, and he didn't think teams were going to be willing to give him a big $$ multi-year deal.

He thinks NE is the best fit for Welker and he makes them better if he returns. Would not be surprised if they told him to test the market, see what the best offer was, and then come back to them.

Imagine is Brady had big targets like all the other great Q.B,s in NFL.

Welker missed the boat on getting paid. He should have held out last year.

We should sign him even if its to pay him not to play so he doesn't injure any more of our players.

Bill Simmons is on his facebook feed saying he's hearing the final two teams vying for Welker are the Pats and the Broncos. Yikes. That's an ugly thought.

I was wondering why the pats didn't give welker the franchise tag again? Was it because it would piss him off ? Does the franchise tag count against the cap & cause cap problems for the team?

This. Just like Mankins and others. Everyone knows how the Pats operate and he should of known better.

Welker with Manning could be gross.

Not too worried about losing him though. I feel we need to diversify the offense a bit anyway. We can essentially have Hernandez do what Welker does and pick up an outside threat (Heyward-Bey would be nice to look at)

I like DHB and thought he'd be a decent pick up as well. What I'm not overly confident in is Hernandez taking over the slot role. He just seems so fragile.

Denver has the luxury of playing in a ****** division, as do the Pats. I'd pencil them each in for at least 12 wins next year, barring injuries to Manning and Brady of course.
