i don't mean to be nitpicky, but Asham's name is spelled "Arron". weird, i know but yeah just wanted to correct that for the next poll...

adding on to my post on the first page: i like what i saw from them in the last 10 minutes of the game. a huge positive, there. hopefully they can retain that groove, use it on Wednesday and build on it from there.

it's only a matter of time, really, till they snap out of this. just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Argument can be made it was a similar situation
I agree with you, pretty stupid comment to make. He was obviously just pissed off but that doesn't justify it.

The problems through the first 2 games, in no particular order have been:

Up front: Stepan, Gaborik, Hagelin, and Kreider. These guys are supposed to be 4 out of the top 7 forwards. They've all been bad to awful

On defense: Staal and Bickel - Bickel can be replaced, Staal needs to wake up.

They'll turn it around, but they need to do it quickly. Right now, this looks like a team thats certainly bought into the Stanley Cup predictions, but isnt doing much work to back those up.

Watching Rick Nash was the only thing that kept this weekend from being a complete disappointment.

The good news is this team has too much talent to not start playing some great hockey. I have no doubts they will make the playoffs with authority. However if they want to win the East they need to find ways to beat Pittsburgh. That's 5 in a row now the Rangers have lost to them and all 5 were ugly. I'd rather see them beat Pittsburgh a few times than win the Cup this year. I'm not sorry for not wanting them to take it this year and instead I'd rather see bad habits broken and fixed then come back next year and absolutely dominate their way to a legitimate full season Cup.

Start with the powerplay, taking stupid penalties and for the love of God stop getting embarrassed by Pittsburgh, especially on the home opener.

It kind of fits very well in with the "the Rancher & cattle" debate held during the lockout...

Most of the team played hard, but not smart. For that I blame the Torts D first system.

Sure D should not be ignored and blocking of shots as needed is in order.

But while we could use another sniper, we have enough horses. We don't have to go shot block first crazy on D every single effin shift.

Rangers had a coupla minutes here and there and most of the last 5 minutes of the third. Pens had most of rest of the game with a very strong 2nd period. Can't win like that.

On top of that, we were very lucky.
Last year we had min, of injury, only collapsing from exhaustion at the end.
But if we continue to press our luck, there will be injury, and that will worsen the load on those trying to fill any gap.

We can win being the best OVERALL team.
That is our only play, not this torts first D, D, D, D, D, D, and more D, all the friggin time D.

Pittsburgh is our greatest threat.
They had the most goals last year, and no/ineffective Letang. He's back, looking good.

We have an edge -- not huge, but edge in G.
Our D are better.

We have to allow our Fs to step up.

You forgot about Crosby being out a majority of the season.

the dump and chase system is frsutrating as hell.

When they are on their game, they look good, but when they are not, they look real bad.

I think that while the dump and chase is the game plan, no one can really argue that it's not, there has to some hybrid thinking to it.

If you have a clear path into the zone, take it.

I saw this team have the ability to skate into the zone with the puck just to dump at the blueline. no line change happening.

Not really happy with the two losses as this team is not playing at all like they can so I take comfort in that. However, is a shortened season, it gets late VERY early and they need to right the ship fast.

Something somewhat drastic just to spark the team.

Asham - Richards - Gaborik
Nash - Stepan - Callahan
Kreider - Boyle - Hagelin

CRASH THE NET over and over again.

But that is the problem they are afraid to crash the net for rebounds/deflections because they might be penalized. Every other team does that and they usually win.

Was at the game last night a few observations:

Conditioning is not good all around
Hank is not Hank..yet
Kreider is lost in a checking role
Boyle is an awful hockey player (sign Gomez, trade BB for a pick) Halpern is a much better player
Nash is dynamic; will be fun to watch
the B's and the Pens took away the clear along the boards and hemmed us in. We need to adjust
Stu cannot play at this level..sorry
Pyatt and Asham looked good in their roles
Staal is struggling big time and Danny G is fighting the puck
MDZ and McD are ready for the season
Richie and Step look slow..although they are spending most of their shifts running around in our zone defending
Cally was much better than Saturday

Torts has the talent; no excuses. He needs to decide on lines and let the chemistry develop. He cannot constantly change them this year. No excuses John. And way too much ice time for Boyle and Bickel. Stralman didn't play enough.

Serious question, when was the last time the Rangers gave up 6 in a game?
You mean they didn't go on a two game losing streak at all last year (because based on what your saying even if they lost the last two games of the season last year, that would have made the other 82 games a fluke)?

This team will be fine. It is just frustrating to watch atm. You could clearly see in the third that we were starting to get things together.

If we are still like this after 12 games then I will be the first to say that last year was a fluke. After 2 games? No.

Majority of the team looks like they haven't played hockey in months. Wonder why that is?

Richards looks like he aged about 5 years over the summer. Slow and making awful decisions with the puck. That drop pass he made to Dupuis on the PP was atrocious.

The good: We played like a real hockey team most of the first period. I think if Hank was on his game we would not have lost as much momentum in the 2nd.

The bad: We played like a bunch of amateurs almost the entire 2nd period. 3rd wasn't much better.

So many amateur mistakes I really can't believe these are paid professionals. My kids PeeWee team doesn't make as many mistakes as I saw last night.

I don't think he is completely over the flu. His pregame talk at Boston his face looked skinnier than ever, and he just did not look healthy.

I don’t want to jump on the hate bandwagon for this team, as I think there is plenty of time for them to work out the kinks. It‘s like a new or rebuilt motor that needs some tinkering with. But…there is one thing that I cannot get past. Game is nearly over. Out of reach on the scoreboard. You clubs number 1 prospect flying through the neutral zone gets crushed at the blue line by Orpik. A player who in the past has done this several times to the Rangers. You have a 6’7 behemoth on the ice, who looks at the refs as if to say, ”Hey, he can’t do that!”. Brian Boyle, a player who I have defended here in the past just completely disgusted me. The hit, whether it was clean or not on your clubs number 1 prospects need to be immediately answered for. If this was 1994, do you think that Joey Kocur, Jeff Beukeboom, or Adam Graves would have let that slide? No way. Immediately Orpik needed to be dealt with. For Boyle to not blink an eye, as if it were OK to do that is terrible for the room and overall chemistry of this club. He does NOT, or did NOT have this kids back. And for one of the core members, and supposed leaders of this team to not have a rookies back to me is a pretty big area of concern... “the Code”. In the simpliest of terms, when the game is out of hand you cannot let opposing players take liberties. It’s that simple. If they do, immediate retribution needs to happen. Never let anyone impose their will on your team.

Theres a distinct difference between "Losing" 2 games and getting "out and out embarrassed" in 2 games, which they did.

With a certain grain of salt because it's just two games:

Last night was all of my concerns with this team in the off-season come to life. It reminds me of the 1998-2004 teams. No chemistry. Little heart. Lots of talent. Go down early. Make a too-little-too-late attempt at a comeback in the last 10 minutes.

The personnel hasn't changed enough for that. The difference is the mindset, the guys were really pleased with themselves, i'm sure.

Torts will beat it out of them, I think Callahan's quote in particular after this game says it all, the addition of Nash only helps if they play the same way they did last year.

We also need to shore up our bottom 6 if we are to make a run. Boyle, Halpern and Pyatt look good, the others I am not so sold on. I still think JT Miller gets a call up at some point and impresses.
