Philly: Losing both there games Chicago: Knocking off the the Cup winners and Western Conference finalists Vancouver: Lost to Anaheim and Edmonton Los Angeles: Having a poor outing against the Hawks after raising the banner. Anaheim: Bombarding Schneider for 5 goals and going on to beat last years president trophy winners 7-3 New York Rangers: Losing both their games. Pittsburgh: Knocking off the NYR and Philly and looking good doing it. St. Louis: Taking out Detroit 6-0. Other: Why?
Detroit and Vancouver. Some might say the Ducks, but they routinely thump teams like the Canucks, then disappear altogether for games at a time; it's not really a surprise.
The Rangers played the other 2 top teams in the east, had almost no guys play earlier, and are notoriously slow starters. Nothing surprising there

neither one was really surprising since both are on the decline

If you think the Canucks are on a decline because of two games where we're missing 2/3s or our top line and being notoriously slow starters, you need to just pay attention to your own team or actually watch the games and see learn what the team is about

Reason: not needed
It was great to see our boys play hard and extract revenge on the Flyers for all of the losses they served us and how they ended our playoff series last year. And then to play NY last night and to not only chase King Henrik out of the net, but to beat them and win against another division rival...yep...I was surprised.
Plus the fact that Tyler Kennedy scored in both games is no doubt a surprise in itself.
Rangers faced better teams but I picked them because everyone has them as the cup favourites and Vancouver had uncertainty about their goaltending, so it wasn't as surprising really

I realize it's only 2 games into the season, but even a team like the Rangers can't afford a slow start with a short 48 game season. There must be some surprise and concern to lose the first 2 games, and the Rangers weren't close either game.

Agreed, 5 games into the season is 10%, 10 games 20%, you can't afford a slow start unless you go havoc in the last 20 games or so.

That's funny, cause the coaches were pretty certain about the goalies.

I mean uncertainty about whether Schneider would be able to handle the pressure of starting more games, and he's not as good as Vancouver fans think he is
VAN easily to me. NYR lost to two cup contenders; granted they lost pretty convincingly in both games, but still. VAN got smoked by ANA and gave up a 2 goal lead to lose to the Oilers at home. I had VAN being top seed in the West over STL by virtue of playing in the NW instead of the Central; not sure about that prediction anymore.
