Well, if both teams won't succeed on SC run this year, then perhaps something like this can happen.
To Blues
Malkin
To Pens
Jaden Schwartz
Patrik Berglund
Vladimir Tarasenko
Why Blues? Well, they have a lot of good forwards in the roster right now, and prospects like Rattie, Jaskin, Lehtera. Add to them Malkin - and they will still have the best top9 in the league with a legit superstar and generational talent.
Why Pens? It's harder to justify, but I think getting a full top6 line won't make them worse, even if they lose a player of Malkin's caliber. Wtih Crosby, Berglund and Sutter they will still be one of the strongest down the middle. And just imagine line Neal - Crosby - Tarasenko!

It's not hard to justify trading Malkin, it's impossible.

Bingo.

would love Malkin on the Blues.. Malkin and Backes as your top 2 centers would be great. But I wouldn't give up what it would take.. especially if it starts with Petro.

Which it certainly would. That's the only piece the Blues have that is even remotely close to the value of Malkin, and he's not really even that close.

obviously Malkin has more value.. but I wouldn't say Petro's value isn't even close to Malkin. the difference certainly isn't a tarasenko /and or oshie. sure that is what it would take.. no point in gutting an already great team

He would definitely be the #1 target IMO, like you said I think both teams are happy and there is absolutely no reason for both these teams to make a huge deal like that
As I said, it's if both team will fail this season. I mean they will definitely wanna make some shaking... Sure, if they play in SC final, nothing like this will happen.
Sure...As long as Orpik, Martin, and Flower play like they did last year.
God that was terrible. All 3 are off to great starts so far, only been 2 games but a lot better. Good luck the rest of the way, great young team you guys have
neither side does this. to land Malkin, the Blues would have to trade almost half of their young core, which they wouldn't (and shouldn't) do anyway.
there is not one feasible combination of players that the Pens could land to get fair or equal value back in a Malkin trade. when i say feasible, i mean a deal that another team could afford to make while still being competitive.
