Also this game goes to show just how valuable defenseman are. The Wings will be recovering for a couple of seasons with the loses on the back end they've suffered. Good win against a mid table team.
Franzen dumped him (interference worthy call), he skated off without his stick. Seems to be okay... I think he was more freaking out about his shoulder being dead again..

Or he was just playing through it..
Let's hope he's fine. Thankfully don't have another back to back until next week.

I thought it was kind of a cheap shot. Blindsided and nowhere near the play. But I feel bad for Detroit right now, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Because it's kind of like watching Mohammed Ali get knocked out by a white girl. It evokes all sorts of pity responses that admittedly are pretty unfamiliar when it comes to Detroit.
BTW, we looked terrible tonight. I want to make that very clear. Detroit is just MUCH MORE awful.
Anyway, I was sort of kidding. I still wanted to keep my foot on their necks. It's time.
We're not going to run into a hot goalie every time, so if they play like this they more we'll be seeing some comfortable wins. We could have easily won this game as badly as St Louis won their home opener against Detroit. I don't think Howard's very good but he played great this game.

Also -- and maybe it was just Howard's excellent positioning -- but man did we ever have a tendency to powderpuff some of those great chances right into his pads.
I can see the veiled disgust that comes with that sarcastic reply. We'll see that Howard isn't very good this year, but he did have a good game. But it's one game.

This is probably the first season we're at least somewhat comparable. But past couple of years, Kari has definitely had way worse to deal with than Turks ever did.
Why? Because he played behind a very good team? And now that that team isn't so great, look at him. There is nothing special about Howard, and it'll be proven this year. He's an OK goalie in a league where most goalies are pretty good.
I would take Lehtonen, Quick, Smith, Lundqvist, Fleury, Miller, Rinne, Luongo, Kipprusoff, Varlamov, Rask, Bryzgalov, Price, Pavelec, Backstrom, Halak, Ward, Hiller and Brodeur over him.
