[CGY/CHI]Henrik Karlsson for 7th rounder

Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today they have traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The 7th round pick was originally the Ottawa Senators, previously acquired by the Blackhawks.

I guess it's for AHL, otherwise they would have grabbed him on waivers.

Curious move as the Hawks have Crawford/Emery in the NHL and Hutton/Simpson/Richards in the AHL already. Unless there's an injury I don't know about.

Best of luck in Chicago Karlsson.

Always thought he was a decent backup, and a great locker room guy. Chicago got a decent player for their pick.

So we got a 7th for a goalie that was free not even a weak ago?

It's a good day.

Not totally sure what to make of this. Does Rockport need a goalie still? If so, great trade.

I don't see Karlsson pushing Emery or Crawford out of the way.

A 7th though? Great trade for the value for Chicago, and Calgary got something for a redundancy. Win on either side I guess.

Does this deep draft include the 7th round?

Huh? Why didn't Chicago just take him on waivers?

Is this for their AHL team then?

I would imagine so since they would have had to keep Karlsson on their NHL roster. Maybe as a callup in case Crawford and Emery **** the bed?

Are you kidding me? What's all this sensible trade discussion for? You don't trade for Karlsson because you're looking for a goaltender, you trade for Karlsson because you need a hot-dog man.

Per the Hawks twitter account, he has been assigned to Rockford of the AHL.

Not bad, it was time we had a prospect be our back up goalie. Hopefully Irving fits nicely. If not, time to use the 7th to draft another Brossoit.

The Hawks were set on their goalies until last night when Emery played the worst goaltending performance in the past year aside from the playoffs against Phoenix. Almost Warren Scoreagainstme-esque. This is mainly a pressure move they didn't need to make a week ago. But, Karlsson is Karlsson.

The man once dubbed the name "The Calgary Tower". Too bad he never panned out here. All the luck to him.

Now with the Karlsson trade, they might as well just cancel the rest of the season and send the Cup to Chicago

Exactly. Many posters didn't realize this.

The reason this trade was made was for insurance in case Emery proves to not be able to handle being the backup. He was terrible last night. Why not flip a seventh for a guy very capable of being recalled and taking the backup job if we need him to? He wasn't claimed off of waivers last week because 1.) Hawks didn't seem to have this problem a week ago and 2.) he would have had to be on the NHL roster, thus carrying three goalies, which wasn't happening.

Good trade for both teams. Flames got something for a guy that was demoted and Hawks gave up only a seventh to ensure they have another goalie in the organization to recall if need be.

Hawks goaltending in Rockford sucks

This move is to stablize nets there and give Hawks a guy with NHL experience who can come up if needed in emergency

Think of this like Toivonen trade in 2010 ,, A goalie for Rockford but a guy with NHL experience if needed to be pressed into duty

Dont read too much into this
