What about Niskanen's game doesn't make him a top 4 guy?

Only argument you could make is that we could ideally use more size and dealing one of Martin/Niskanen in a trade for one makes some sense.

Im not getting the "Niskanen being a bottom pairing d-man" talk either. Up until he looks completely out of place in the top 4, people should be extremely happy with his steady increase in overall play. Having him as a #5/bottom pairing is a luxary and probably not going to happen.

I could understand that talk last year when Niskanen was on the bottom pairing all year... except that he was one of our best D all year and in the playoffs. Then this year he's been on the top pairing with Letang and looked fine. Yes I wish him or Letang had more size and were more physical. However he's played very very well for us since he came here, and nothing suggests that he doesn't belong in the top 4. Basically the issues we're having are not because he was getting over 21 minutes a night.

Yeah he held his own, but he didn't exactly blow away either. He doesn't have any stand out abilities or qualities. He might be more or less serviceable in the top 4 but we should try to do better.

Well for the sake of maintaining this thread's status as 'All Encompassing' I'll mention that Zach Boychuk has been acquired. Yup, just the guy everyone had been clamoring for...

It's not like we just traded Joe Morrow and two first rounders for him. Calm down...

Someone needs to be like that chick in zero dark thirty and write the number of days it's been since Shero addressed the winger for Sid problem on Sheros office window everyday.

Can we view this as some sort of speculation? Former GM?

Former Flames GM Craig Button says he thinks Iginla would be willing to end his career in Pittsburgh.

Let's do this ****.

Top 6 = Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Bennett, Iginla, Kunitz. We would be practically set for next year.

I'm gonna jump into the Seto/Clutterbuck bandwagon. Pens need toughness, Clutterbuck would be bringing it pretty good for us, then try and get a Rupp type of guy. Watching the Pens/Rags 3-0 game, we need some TOUGHNESS!!!! The new blood would serve us well. If we can get Iginla aswell, then cool, but i'm fine if we don't as sick as it would be watching Crosby and Iginla destroy the goal light bulb, but we need TOUGHNESS very badly.

****, trade for him now, before he seems what waiving his NTC would mean . . .

Seriously, Pens have the pieces Calgary would want. Iginla can give you 3-4 more good years (guy is a horse).

And, I'll repeat something that I wrote before: When it comes to getting Sid his winger, only Geno and Neal are completely off limits.

If they go the Iginla route, I think it's really important that you develop Beau Bennett for 87 too. That way, as Iginla starts to lose it, Bennett starts to gain confidence and becomes the winger of thr future for 87.

I'd love to see for this year:

Dupuis-Crosby-Iginla
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal

And next year replace Bennett with Duper and slide Duper down with Sutter.

Honestly, Iginla would push this team over the top.

We can agree on one thing, anyway.

Iggy to Pittsburgh just makes too much sense on too many levels.

The question is, what's the price?

Pouliot and a 1st?
Maata, Tangradi and a 1st

I think that speaks enough for Iginla's desires to come here, and with Calgary in a serious rebuilding stage (and an obviously desperate one to pay Wideman what they did lol) I think a deal could be something near:

Tangradi/Jeffery, One of our D (preferably not Morrow, Harrington, or Despres) and a 1st. DJ looking like more of an enticing piece because he's been playing pretty decently with geno the past 2 games, and the kid has a bright future but it doesn't look like he'll be fitting here anytime soon with BB on the rise.

None of which I would mind at all, given our D prospect reservoir, and the immediate impact Iggy would have since he's played with Sid on the Canada team.

Chris Stewart only played 11:30 tonight against Columbus.

Iginla's Flames are off to a 1-3-1 start after a pounding at home against Colorado tonight.

Take your pick, Ray.

I'd be content with either, skill and grit both ways. Stewart comes way cheaper and seems way under-appreciated though. Although it's obvious Iginla > Stewart, Stewart could stay awhile.

That guy (pittsburgh radio host/panelist), had interviewed him during an intermission tonight somewhere. My friend sent me that link once he saw it since he follows him.

Sounds like baseless speculation to me. I'm sure Iginla would consider ending his career with any number of contenders if Calgary proves weak again this year. We'd just be one among many seeking his services.

Yeah, I'd take that report with a grain of salt. It's the former GM and he's talking to a Pittsburgh reporter so he may be pandering a bit to the local crowd.

I'd like to get Iginla here. I think he'd be a huge addition and I'd part with quite a bit to get him. I just wish he were about 5 years younger but then he likely wouldn't be available.

If he said that to a national reporter, I'd put more stock into it.
