Maybe I'm going a little overboard with this NYI scenario as I agree that its unlikely Lu would waive the NTC to go there.
Islanders have totally mishandled Nino. I wonder if he'd be able to recapture his game in Chicago? He'd be a great pickup.

I'd love him and an extra player.

It is not that far away from Florida (at least the same time zone) but yeah I don't see that as a likely destination Luo would want.

I would want Niederreiter. However, I don't think they want Luongo, nor does Luongo want NYI. Niederreiter is a great prospect - however, the way he's been handled is not that great, nor am I sure we need another Left winger.

Then again, if you get a great prospect/player, you make it fit.

Gut feeling, not correlated things.

I thought they were happy with Lehtonen?
I can't imagine they wouldn't be... but maybe the rumors of Benn wanting out AND wanting to play with Canucks are true? I dunno... player wise it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I doubt it but he's a great prospect and would be worth it. Maybe as I mentioned before Neilsen as well in a package deal could work. We'd have to give up something decent in addition to Lu though.

I'm thinking it's Detroit that would have interest in Luongo. Howard's an UFA at season's end, perhaps contract talks aren't going well and Detroit is looking at flipping him for some defensive help while trading from a position of strength(forwards) to land a better goaltender in Luongo? I do remember reading in the past that Ken Holland really liked Roberto, now could be his chance to land him and add a leader to that team on the defensive side of things after losing Rafalski and Lidstrom in consecutive seasons.

I'm not sure Luongo would waive for NYI.

Neiderreiter is a great young player, but he would be in a similar position here - fighting for a roster spot with Kassian, Raymond, Burrows, Higgins, Hansen, Booth, etc (and of course Dale Weise the Gretzky of the Dutch league). He wouldn't help our lack of depth at Centre immediately, but looking to the future, when Kesler is healthy, he could make the oft injured Booth or inconsistent Raymond redundant. He played in a 4th line role last year in NY, so he doesn't have to play in a top 6 or nothing role.

You can take the Oilers off that list. They have confidence in Dubnyk who had pretty decent numbers last year playing on the 29th place team(.915SV% IIRC) They also won't have the cap room for Luongo(and I doubt they would entertain a package including any of the big 5)
The Oilers are going to be patient and make some small moves. No pressure to win the Stanley cup now. Fans will be happy with them fighting for a playoff spot this year. Actually, I'm ecstatic that they aren't pretty much eliminated in January

Niederreiter was killing it in a stacked AHL as a 20 year old this year. 4th in goals, led his team in scoring by 9 points (33%), and was 10th in SOG so it wasn't just a SH% mirage.

I'm so high on Nino . I just can't see Luongo waiving his NTC to go to NYI. I say we keep Luongo stagnating as a backup until he's desperate enough to waive his NTC and join a team like NYI or Columbus.

Question is, would we want to take a player who is complaining about his treatment with another organization?

I mean, he'd be no lock to stick with the Canucks, so we may have another HOdgson situation on our hands.

Good young player, but seems he feels he's ready for prime time, and may not be.....the Islanders are a joke though....kept him up all last season so his bonus would help them reach the cap floor, now that he's played well in the AHL all season, they keep him down....definitely an organization whose decisions make you shake your head.

But the Nucks need NHL ready players right now, so this deal would probably not happen, have to say I feel for Nino though, he deserves better, I am totally behind him, I wouldn't play for that org., hope he can move somewhere else soon.

It's too bad they have their bat**** crazy owner messing up hockey ops, if the team had a chance to be successful it'd be a good destination for him. His wife could live it up in the Hamptons. Hang out and get revenge on people and such.

nino, Do not want.

Young or not, he had 1 point in 51 games for the islanders in his first season, clearly has attitude problems if he is asking for a trade, and does not fit our needs at all right now.

2 years ago maybe but right now he's regressed to the point where he has little trade value. No way the Canucks should give anything of significance for him. Forget about where he was drafted and what he did in junior.
