Guys: watching TV and hanging out on these boards does not make you better qualified to assess the fitness levels of players compared to those in the organization. Sorry to break it to ya.

Well, to be fair, I think it was only 4 posts. And one of them couldn't enter the net because of a big fat goalie being in the way. And another one of them didn't hit the post, it hit the outside of the net. So really it was only two.

No not at all. No malice in my comments. Other way around if you ask me. Dose of reality to those thinking they can select starting goalies from the comforts of their own homes and all that .... I'm the one saying trust the coaches!

On a surface level I don't like Pavelec doing back-to-back's but there are many variables that are unknown to us fans... What we do know is:

0-5-0 3.28GAA 0.892sv% for back-to-backs in 2011-12
0-5-0 5.31GAA 0.816sv% for back-to-backs in 2010-11

Doesn't look pretty... but there is improvement

Are they contradicting anyone in the organizsation? They could be totally right. Just cause PAv is starting ahead of Montoya, doesn't mean the peole in the organization thinks he has a better fitness level.

If I know my maths, I'd say that his record this year should be around,

0-5-0 1.25GAA 0.968sv% for back-to-backs in 2012-13

I dont see what the big deal is about starting Pavelec tonight

Who cares if it is 2 in 2 nights

It is the third game of the year not game 70

I went to make a cup of tea, realized what I had done, rushed back to ninja edit it, and I still was too late.

Haven't read all the thread , so this may have been mentioned , last night Craig Button mentioned that he doesn't see any dynamic playmakers for the Jets and this is evident on the PP.

I completely agree with this , as structured now , the Jets don't have that above average let alone elite puck distributor , and this is and will effect the PP performance imo. This should open a door for Scheifele as he does possess vision and can distribute the puck to players in good scoring positions. PP time at C would be sweet tonight , getting results would be even sweeter.

Adding a dynamic , play making talent would go a long way to initiating more consistent winning for this team imo.

I trust the coaches, but this board would be completely empty if we just sat around and didn't discuss decisions, lineups, etc.

I know the coaches know more than me, but I'm allowed to provide an alternate opinion. If Noel does something I don't agree with I'll voice it and provide a reason. Which I did. What's wrong with that?

Plus the fitness thing was a joke. In fact fitness may have absolutely nothing to do with the decision as you alluded to.

If Scheifele can make his mark here, this could go a long way in cementing him a spot on this team.

Huge opportunity here. But Noel better give him the ice-time and linemates to take hold of this opportunity. The kid is here, for goodness sake let's see what he can do. All in all, he's been eased in and now has 2 games under his belt. His feet are wet and he didn't look anywhere as nervous last night in Boston (no nervous noodle-legs), so that is a huge plus. Boston is no easy place to play and their team sure could be intimidating for a young guy but Scheifele did well.

Let the 3rd game be a charm for this kid. Really rooting for Mark tonight. I want this to be the game where he grabs the horns here and runs with it, gives the org. no option but to keep him, and hopefully Scheifele steals a spot from a guy like Wellwood from here on out. That would be huge.
My thoughts exactly! I'm anxious to see what Mark can do with serious ice time and top linemates.

You didn't debate.

You first inferred that everyone would like to see Montoya only because he's "shiny and new" (essentially purposefully ignoring the reasoning people provided in prior posts) then got your back up against the wall when we provided reasoning and your reply was essentially "well the coach is smarter than you".

don't know if this has been brought up yet... saw it in the FP article

> Washington will open the home half of its schedule against the Jets. The Capitals are 10-0-0 in their last 10 home openers and have not lost a home opener since the 2000-01 season...

what was that about streak busters?
