Koivu out 3-4 weeks

www.rds.ca

I hope he will take the full month to recover and not coming to quick.

This is great news, now everybody can let go of a collective sigh of relief, he'll probably be back for the first game, if not, he won't be out that long, this will give the chance for one of the young guys to shine

i hope he heals quickly. Koivu is a warrior and this wont set him back too far. Expect to still have a solid season this year.

Great news. Couldn't imagine the start of the season without Saku especially when you consider the schedule the habs have.

The only good thing about this is that it happaned early in pre-season so he won't miss too much of the regular season. I hope this sends a message to the other players that it's their time to step up and show they belong.

Worst case scenario, he misses 2 games and it opens a spot for a youngster to start the year. (higgins, or more likely Ryder)

but they usually are, more often than not, an innocent hit is what causes knee injuries.

Good point,

Ligaments tend to be very fragiles, so even the slightess contact can cause an injury.

I agree, but you often see hits that seem much worse (like knee on knee hits) that don't result in injury.

Now I just hope Saku doesn't get a hernia from hauling his cash to the bank (or does he have an assistant for that?)

You can never be sure when it comes down to ligaments. Just glad to hear that we won't be without saku for long.

I always felt Ribeiro had his spot nonetheless, but you're right this tends to accentuate that probability even more.

How is he going to be ready for opening night? I believe we are 2 weeks away from opening night.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the season start on october 9th for us.

Koivu could miss 2 games or more. I'm not sure, I hope someone clarifies this by checking the schedule.

Well that just means he's going to miss only 2 to 4 games, maybe even less if it heals quicker, and that gives an opportunity for a young center to shine during pre-season with added ice time.

I hope that Koivu takes the full 4 weeks to allow the
ligament to heal. That would mean that he would only miss
4 regular season games, which is not too bad.
Obviously, it may also give another young player a chance
at some icetime, but I suspect that the extra time will
probably be distributed among the other younger forwards
[eg. Ribiero,Ward,Bulis] rather than put someone like Higgins
into the lineup. It's just my prediction, even though I
personally can't wait to see Higgins play for the Habs.

This has to be very frustrating for Saku. I can imagine the disappoint he's feeling right now. No, it's not as bad as it could have been but either way he's going to miss 3-4 weeks of top-notch conditioning and he'll have to start the season at full speed. It'll be tough for him for sure. I can't believe how many injuries this guy has had...it's just insane. I really hope Higgins pans out for us, we need a guy that can stay healthy for us.

Thank god there is no tear or something like that which would have been devastating.

I'm putting a couple of dimes on him being ready for game 1. If not he misses a week and is ready to go right after.
