Gardiner is better offensively, but Garrison is significantly better defensively, and that's what we need next to Edler

Well Garrison supplies a defensive presence to Edler's offensive game.

Garrison's not bad offensively either - he had more goals and points than Gardiner last season, while he was a "shutdown" d-man.

trust me I love Gardiner, and would probably look to eventually move one of our top 4for a big return if we got Gardiner, but I doubt he was ever on the table.

Okay. I'll give you some help. Where do you slot in Gardiner in this d-lineup?

Bieksa - Hamuis
Garrison - Edler
Tanev - Ballard

He'd slot in 5th/6th. Tanev has been great and we need to continue to develop him.

So saying "help" when a guy is talking about his team and it's depth; I would take a peak in first.

That isn't a knock on Lu, it's just that teams looking for a starter ie: Edm,TO, FLA (maybe) or the Jackets don't have a sniper to give. Chi and Philly. maybe, but i guess it depends on your definition of sniper.
The point is that TO fans continuously keep bring up Gardiner. He's saying, we're not even askin' for him.

A really good second liner would be ideal for Lu imho.

And where would you give that to him. Move Kesler to the 3rd line?

This horse has been beat to death.

What the hell? Kind of random lol. We got a guy name Kassian back too, so there's that. Since the players are 21/22 in that trade, I'll personally reserve judgment.

And as mentioned, Hodgson deserved and demanded to be a regular top 6 centre. If the Canucks could have stashed him on the 3rd line until they needed him, I'm sure they would have.

That's not the way it works for top teams. You have to deal with depth issues as they come up (ie Hodgson needing a bigger role than the Canucks could afford to give).

No. No. NO chance he's waiving to go to the only team that's only just under 200 clicks closer to Florida.

Not the NW Div and I'm fairly certain not even the WC unless it's Detroit and even then I doubt it because that city is a hole.

What are you talking about ?

He's looked just as good as Hodgson did at the same age in Vancouver, and Kassian can play on the top line with Henrik.

I don't understand the relevance to a Luongo thread, especially since Kassian is playing great so far and has the ability to go up and down the lineup. Hodgson would of been the #3 centre as soon as Kesler cam back. It's sad that you're bringing this up

BTW the top 4 of the Nucks:

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Garrison - Edler

No way Gardiner cracks that.
How is one good season from Garrison, suddenly make him amazing, seriously?

Kassian was rushed into the NHL last year because Gillis wanted his trade to look better. It was a mistake, he should of finished last year in the AHL. He has exceeded my expectations for him so fsr

he's been a defensive rock for years, we don't expect him to replicate his offensive numbers we're just relying on him being the player he's been for quite a while

So a differential of +6 last season for garrison as opposed to -2 from a rookie is signifigantly better?

Garrison was used against team's top lines. Gardiner was not.

As a fan I have never done more than claimed he was worth keeping as he has great potential. If you don't that is great. But We are talking about a rookie on a non playoff team that all claim is a joke as opposed to a "shutdown" signifigantly better player on a playoff team. I am asking what makes him not replaceable in your top 4 by a young player?

A defensive rock for years? This is his forth season, he is a carreeer +10, I would not say that makes him a defensive rock. i am not saying he sucks, but seriously a defensive rock is Chara or Weber like, not Garrison.
