People not impressed with John Cena's Raw promo

Quote:
One of the big topics of discussion last night after Raw was how bad the John Cena promo was, especially since it was closing the show and came after strong work from CM Punk and The Rock.

I'm telling you. Rock & Punk/Shield were freaking awesome. That was just tremendous stuff. I also felt the beat the clock matches and it gave purpose to the Rumble.

Some of my favorite matches would be the weeks leading up to the Rumble or KOTR where people would be in matches to get a better spot or qualify. It gives time filler a purpose.

All of the beat the clock matches last night were strong showing. I liked Ziggler v Miz in particular. They worked well together

Even for those of us who don't have high standards for a Cena promo, this was brutal. Someone in the head office needs to pull him aside and say "Really, John - you're not funny. Not even a little bit. Move on."

I'll be the first Rock homer to say that, the only thing that saved the Rock promo earlier that night, was the blood. Shield put a big question mark on if Rock can win the title.

Huh? The entire promo was great. Rock sold the match and Punk as a threat perfectly. It was his best promo in 2013 on this build and up there as one of his best promos since his return in 2011.

Was it his best promo in 2013? Probably. That doesn't mean the Rock's promos aren't just copies of everything he did 15 years ago.

As far as the beat the clock matches? I always love those. It's wonderful to have midcard matches that have a very specific purpose to them.

It was good in the fact he got serious and treated Punk like he was a legitimate threat, and not just spouting catchphrases. He stepped up and managed to match Punk's confidence and intensity and really sold the match.

I'm far more interested in Rock / Punk than I was Rock / Cena. It just seems to be more real and have more purpose.

from espn:

Quote:
1. CM Punk (1)
2. Dolph Ziggler (3)
3. The Shield (9)
4. Alberto Del Rio (4)
5. The Rock (2)

John Cena ranked at #10 this week after taking the #5 spot last week. ESPN wrote the following about John Cena's promo on Raw.

This man used to be money on the mic, but his promo on Raw was seriously one of the most ridiculous, time-wasting experiences I've sat through in years. Curious to know whether his writers are really this out of touch, or if Cena actually thinks he's being funny.

Rock/Cena was just a pissing contest for bragging rights. Rock/Punk actually has meaning behind it.

I had stopped watching at that point and just checked Wrestlezone for updates. At that point the update said something like.

Quote:
John Cena comes out to cut a promo

What the **** is he talking about? Get to the ******* point already.
Might now be a direct quote but pretty close. Made me laugh and I was curious about what he was actually talking about. Then I watched it and it all became clear.

I was just yelling at my TV to shut its pie hole at this point. It felt like pure agony, the worst thing I've heard out of his mouth (which is saying a whole lot).

I wasn't saying anything or responding at all. My mouth was slightly open and my eyes were as wide as dinner plates. I was utterly by mesmerized how bad it was.

I didn't see the show as it happened, I DVR'd it, thank God. I fast forwarded through most of Cena's promo.
His only excuse can be that it was written for him, and if it was he should've been wise enough to say "this is crap. I'm not saying this."

Punk and Rock have made me more interested in them than the Royal Rumble. And the Royal Rumble is my favourite match.

I think this promo might be talked about ten years from now when describing Cena as a character, like Austin 3:16.

No one should be satisfied by that promo. It was one of the worst ones I have seen. It was at a horrible time too, last RAW before one of the biggest PPVs, Royal Rumble.

Cena needs a new character. His character is lame and stale.
